2:1
And Naomi had a relative of her ish, an ish of great strength from the family of Elimelekh. And his name was Boaz.
2:2
And Rut the Moavitess said to Naomi: “Please let me go to the field and glean among the ears of grain after the one in whose eyes I find favor.” And she said to her: “Go, my daughter.”
2:3
And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers. And her chance happened upon the portion of the field belonging to Boaz, who was from the family of Elimelekh.
2:4
And see, Boaz came from Beit-Lechem and said to the reapers: “Yahuah be with you.” And they said to him: “May Yahuah bless you.”
2:5
And Boaz said to his young man who was appointed over the reapers: “To whom does this young woman belong?”
2:6
And the young man appointed over the reapers answered and said: “She is the young Moavitess who returned with Naomi from the fields of Moav.
2:7
And she said: ‘Please let me glean and gather among the sheaves after the reapers.’ And she came and has remained from the morning until now, except that she sat in the house a little.”
2:8
And Boaz said to Rut: “Have you not heard, my daughter? Do not go to glean in another field, and do not pass on from here. But cling here with my young women.
2:9
Let your eyes be upon the field that they reap, and go after them. Have I not commanded the young men not to touch you? And when you are thirsty, go to the vessels and drink from what the young men draw.”
2:10
And she fell upon her face and bowed herself to the ground and said to him: “Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should recognize me, though I am a foreign woman?”
2:11
And Boaz answered and said to her: “Declaring, it has surely been declared to me all that you did for your mother-in-law after the death of your ish, and how you left your father and your mother and the land of your birth and went to a people whom you did not know before.
2:12
May Yahuah repay your work, and may your reward be whole from Yahuah, Elohim of Yisra’el, beneath whose wings you have come to seek refuge.”
2:13
And she said: “Let me find favor in your eyes, my master, for you have comforted me and have spoken upon the heart of your maidservant, though I am not even like one of your maidservants.”
2:14
And Boaz said to her at the time of eating: “Come here, and eat from the bread, and dip your piece in the vinegar.” And she sat beside the reapers. And he reached out roasted grain to her, and she ate and was satisfied and had some left over.
2:15
And she arose to glean. And Boaz commanded his young men, saying: “Even between the sheaves let her glean, and do not shame her.
2:16
And also pulling, you shall pull out for her from the bundles and leave it, and she shall glean it, and you shall not rebuke her.”
2:17
And she gleaned in the field until evening. And she beat out what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley.
2:18
And she lifted it up and came into the city. And her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned. And she brought out and gave to her what she had left after she had been satisfied.
2:19
And her mother-in-law said to her: “Where did you glean today, and where did you work? Blessed be the one who recognized you.” And she declared to her mother-in-law with whom she had worked and said: “The name of the ish with whom I worked today is Boaz.”
2:20
And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law: “Blessed be he of Yahuah, who has not forsaken His Covenant-Faithfulness toward the living and toward the dead.” And Naomi said to her: “The ish is near to us. He is one of our redeemers.”
2:21
And Rut the Moavitess said: “Even this he said to me: ‘You shall cling to the young men who are mine until they have finished all the harvest that is mine.’”
2:22
And Naomi said to Rut her daughter-in-law: “It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his young women, and that they do not encounter you in another field.”
2:23
And she clung to the young women of Boaz, gleaning until the barley harvest and the wheat harvest were finished. And she dwelt with her mother-in-law.
