8:1
In the third year of the reign of King Belshatzar, a vision appeared to me— to me, Dani’el— after the one which appeared to me at the beginning.
8:2
And I saw in the vision, and it came to pass, when I saw, that I was in Shushan, the citadel, which is in the province of Elam. And I saw in the vision that I was beside the canal of Ulai.
8:3
Then I lifted my eyes and saw, and see— a ram standing before the canal, having two horns. And the two horns were high, but one was higher than the other, and the higher one came up last.
8:4
I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward. And no beast could stand before him, and there was none who could deliver from his hand. And he did according to his desire and became great.
8:5
And while I was considering, see— a male goat came from the west over the face of the whole earth without touching the ground. And the goat had a conspicuous horn between his eyes.
8:6
And he came to the ram having the two horns, which I had seen standing before the canal, and ran against him in the fury of his strength.
8:7
And I saw him come near to the ram. And he was enraged against him and struck the ram and broke his two horns. And there was no strength in the ram to stand before him. And he cast him to the ground and trampled him. And there was none who could deliver the ram from his hand.
8:8
Then the male goat became exceedingly great. And when he became strong, the great horn was broken. And in its place there came up four conspicuous horns toward the four ruachot of the heavens.
8:9
And from one of them came forth a little horn, which became exceedingly great toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the Beautiful Land.
8:10
And it grew great even to the host of the heavens. And it cast down some of the host and some of the stars to the earth, and trampled them.
8:11
And it magnified itself even against the Prince of the host. And from Him the continual offering was taken away, and the place of His Sanctuary was cast down.
8:12
And a host was given over with the continual offering because of transgression. And it cast truth to the ground and acted and prospered.
8:13
Then I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to that certain one who was speaking: “For how long is the vision concerning the continual offering, and the transgression that causes desolation, to give both the Sanctuary and the host to be trampled?”
8:14
And he said to me: “Until two thousand three hundred evenings and mornings. Then the Sanctuary shall be restored to its rightful condition.”
8:15
And it came to pass, when I, Dani’el, had seen the vision and sought understanding, that see— there stood before me one having the appearance of a man.
8:16
And I heard the voice of Adam between the banks of the Ulai, and he called and said: “Gavri’el, make this one understand the vision.”
8:17
So he came near where I stood. And when he came, I was afraid and fell upon my face. And he said to me: “Understand, son of Adam, for the vision is for the time of the end.”
8:18
And while he was speaking with me, I fell into a deep sleep with my face toward the ground. But he touched me and made me stand in my place.
8:19
And he said: “See, I am making known to you what shall be in the latter part of the indignation, for it belongs to the appointed time of the end.
8:20
The ram which you saw, having the two horns, is the kings of Madai and Paras.
8:21
And the hairy goat is the king of Yavan. And the great horn which was between his eyes is the first king.
8:22
And the horn that was broken, in whose place four arose— four kingdoms shall arise from his nation, but not with his power.
8:23
And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors have reached fullness, a king shall arise, fierce of face and understanding riddles.
8:24
And his power shall become mighty, but not by his own power. And he shall destroy wonderfully and shall prosper and act. And he shall destroy mighty ones and the people of the holy ones.
8:25
And through his cunning he shall cause deceit to prosper in his hand. And in his heart he shall magnify himself. And in security he shall destroy many. And he shall stand against the Prince of princes. But he shall be broken without hand.
8:26
And the vision of the evenings and mornings which was spoken is true. But you— seal up the vision, for it concerns many days from now.”
8:27
And I, Dani’el, was exhausted and was sick for days. Then I arose and did the king’s work. And I was astonished by the vision, but there was none who understood it.
