1
“Say to your brothers: ‘Ammi — My People.’ And to your sisters: ‘Ruchamah — Shown Compassion.’
2
Contend with your mother, contend, for she is not My ishah, and I am not her ish. Let her remove her prostitution from before her face, and her adultery from between her breasts,
3
lest I strip her naked and set her as on the day she was born, and make her like the wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and cause her to die with thirst.
4
And upon her children I will have no compassion, for they are children of prostitution.
5
For their mother prostituted herself. She who conceived them acted shamefully. For she said: ‘I will go after my lovers, who give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.’
6
Therefore, see, I will hedge your way with thorns, and I will wall up her wall, so that she shall not find her paths.
7
And she shall pursue her lovers, but shall not overtake them. She shall seek them, but shall not find them. Then she shall say: ‘I will go and return to my first ish, for it was better for me then than now.’
8
But she did not know that it was I who gave her the grain, and the new wine, and the oil, and multiplied for her silver and gold, which they used for Ba’al.
9
Therefore I will return and take My grain in its time, and My new wine in its appointed season. And I will recover My wool and My flax given to cover her nakedness.
10
And now I will uncover her shame before the eyes of her lovers, and no ish shall deliver her from My hand.
11
And I will cause all her rejoicing to cease— her feasts, her new moons, her Shabbatot, and all her appointed times.
12
And I will make desolate her vine and her fig tree, of which she said: ‘These are my wages that my lovers gave me.’ And I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them.
13
And I will visit upon her the days of the Ba’alim, when she burned incense to them and adorned herself with her ring and her jewelry, and went after her lovers, but Me she forgot,” declares Yahuah.
14
“Therefore, see, I will allure her. I will bring her into the wilderness and speak to her heart.
15
And from there I will give her her vineyards, and the Valley of Akhor as a door of hope. And there she shall answer as in the days of her youth, as in the day when she came up from the land of Mitzrayim.
16
And it shall be in that day,” declares Yahuah, “that you shall call Me: ‘My Ish,’ and you shall no longer call Me: ‘My Ba’al.’
17
For I will remove the names of the Ba’alim from her mouth, and they shall no longer be remembered by their name.
18
And I will establish for them a Covenant in that day with the beasts of the field, and with the birds of the heavens, and with the creeping things of the ground. And bow, and sword, and war I will break from the land, and I will cause them to lie down securely.
19
And I will betroth you to Me forever. And I will betroth you to Me in Righteousness and in Judgment, and in Covenant-Faithfulness, and in compassion.
20
And I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, and you shall know Yahuah.
21
And it shall be in that day that I will answer,” declares Yahuah. “I will answer the heavens, and they shall answer the earth.
22
And the earth shall answer the grain, and the new wine, and the oil, and they shall answer Yizre’el.
23
And I will sow her for Myself in the land. And I will have compassion upon Lo-Ruchamah. And I will say to Lo-Ammi: ‘You are My People.’ And he shall say: ‘You are My Elohim.’”
