1
But upon the wicked wrath came without compassion to the end, for He knew beforehand the things they would do:
2
that after permitting Your People to depart and sending them away with haste, they would change their thought and pursue them.
3
For while they were still in the midst of mourning and lamenting at the graves of the dead, they added another foolish counsel and pursued as fugitives those whom they themselves had begged to depart.
4
For the fate they deserved drew them toward this end and caused them to forget the things that had already happened, so that they might complete the punishment still lacking from their torments,
5
and that Your People might experience a marvelous journey, while they themselves found a strange death.
6
For the whole creation, each according to its own kind, was fashioned anew, serving Your commandments, so that Your servants might be guarded without harm.
7
The cloud was seen overshadowing the camp, and dry land appeared where water had stood. From the Sea of Reeds came an unobstructed way, and from the violent waters a green plain.
8
Through it the whole nation passed, protected by Your hand, seeing marvelous wonders.
9
For they grazed like horses and leaped like lambs, praising You, Yahuah, who delivered them.
10
For they still remembered the things that happened during their sojourning: how instead of producing animals, the earth brought forth gnats, and instead of fish, the river cast up a multitude of frogs.
11
And afterward they saw a new generation of birds, when, being led by desire, they asked for delicate food.
12
For quail came up to them from the sea for their satisfaction.
13
But punishments came upon the sinners, not without signs given beforehand through the force of thunderbolts. For they suffered rightly according to their own wickedness, because they practiced a more bitter hatred toward strangers.
14
For some did not receive those unknown to them when they came, but these enslaved those who were guests and had dealt well with them.
15
And not only this— for there shall be a visitation upon the others also, because they received strangers with hostility.
16
But these, after receiving them with feasting, and after they had already shared the same rights, afflicted them with terrible labors.
17
They also were struck with blindness, as those were at the doors of the righteous one, when, surrounded by thick darkness, each sought the passage through his own door.
18
For the elements changed places among themselves, just as sounds upon a harp change the character of the melody while each sound remains itself. And this may be understood clearly from considering the things that happened.
19
For creatures of the land were changed into creatures of the water, and swimming creatures went forth upon the land.
20
Fire exceeded its own power in water, and water forgot its nature of extinguishing.
21
On the other side, the flames did not consume the flesh of the fragile living creatures walking within them, nor did they melt the easily melted heavenly food, which was like ice.
22
For in all things, Yahuah, You magnified Your People and glorified them. You did not overlook them, but stood beside them in every time and in every place.
