For the married woman is bound by law to the living husband; but if the husband dies, she is released from the law concerning the husband.

Therefore, while her husband lives, she will be called an adulteress if she joins another man; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is not an adulteress if she joins another man.

4

So then, my brothers and sisters, you also were put to death to law through the body of the Mashiyach, so that you might belong to another—to the one raised from the dead—in order that we might bear fruit to Elohim.

For when we were in flesh, the passions of sins aroused through law were active in our members to bear fruit to death.

But now we have been released from law, having died to that which held us, so that we serve in newness of Spirit and not in oldness of written code.

Passage ID 6a9cbf2f6afaa4ce5cbba566 · English · translation

7

What, then, shall we say? Is Torah sin? Certainly not. Yet I would not have known sin except through Torah. For I would not have known desire if Torah had not said, “You shall not desire.”

But sin, seizing an opportunity through the command, produced in me every desire. For apart from law, sin is dead.

I once lived apart from law; but when the command came, sin came to life and I died.

And the command that was for life—this was found to result in death for me.

For sin, seizing an opportunity through the command, deceived me and through it killed me.

Therefore Torah is set apart, and the command is set apart, righteous, and good.

Did the good, then, become death to me? Certainly not. But sin, so that it might be shown as sin, worked death in me through what is good, so that through the command sin might become sinful beyond measure.

For we know that Torah is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold under sin.
