1
And it came to pass, when Yavin king of Chatzor heard, that he sent to Yovav king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Akhshaf,
2
and to the kings who were from the north in the hill country, and in the Arabah south of Kinneret, and in the Shefelah, and in the heights of Dor toward the west,
3
to the Kena’ani toward the east and toward the west, and the Emori, and the Chitti, and the Perizzi, and the Yevusi in the hill country, and the Chivvi beneath Chermon in the land of Mitzpah.
4
And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, a people exceedingly numerous, like the sand that is upon the shore of the sea for multitude, with very many horses and chariots.
5
And all these kings assembled together, and they came and encamped together at the waters of Merom, to fight against Yisra’el.
6
And Yahuah said to Yehoshua, “Do not fear before their face, for tomorrow at this time I will give all of them slain before Yisra’el. You shall hamstring their horses, and their chariots you shall burn with fire.”
7
And Yehoshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them at the waters of Merom suddenly, and they fell upon them.
8
And Yahuah gave them into the hand of Yisra’el, and they struck them and pursued them as far as Great Tzidon, and Misrefot-Mayim, and the valley of Mitzpah toward the east. And they struck them until they left them no survivor.
9
And Yehoshua did to them according to what Yahuah had spoken to him: their horses he hamstrung, and their chariots he burned with fire.
10
And Yehoshua turned back at that time and captured Chatzor and struck its king with the sword, for Chatzor formerly was the head of all these kingdoms.
11
And they struck every being who was in it with the mouth of the sword, devoting them to destruction. Nothing that breathed remained, and Chatzor he burned with fire.
12
And all the cities of these kings, and all their kings, Yehoshua captured, and he struck them with the mouth of the sword and devoted them to destruction, according to what Mosheh, servant of Yahuah, had commanded.
13
Only all the cities standing upon their mounds Yisra’el did not burn, except Chatzor alone, which Yehoshua burned.
14
And all the spoil of these cities, and the livestock, the sons of Yisra’el plundered for themselves. Only every Adam they struck with the mouth of the sword until they had destroyed them; they left nothing that breathed.
15
According to what Yahuah commanded Mosheh His servant, so Mosheh commanded Yehoshua, and so Yehoshua did. He did not turn aside a word from all that Yahuah had commanded Mosheh.
16
And Yehoshua took all this land: the hill country, and all the Negev, and all the land of Goshen, and the Shefelah, and the Arabah, and the hill country of Yisra’el and its lowlands,
17
from Mount Chalaq, which rises toward Seir, even to Baal-Gad in the valley of Levanon beneath Mount Chermon. And all their kings he captured, and he struck them and put them to death.
18
Many days Yehoshua made war with all these kings.
19
There was not a city that made peace with the sons of Yisra’el except the Chivvi, the inhabitants of Givon. They took all in battle.
20
For from Yahuah it was to strengthen their heart to meet Yisra’el in battle, so that he might devote them to destruction, that there might be no favor for them, but that he might destroy them, according to what Yahuah had commanded Mosheh.
21
And Yehoshua came at that time and cut off the Anaqim from the hill country—from Chevron, from Devir, from Anav, and from all the hill country of Yehudah, and from all the hill country of Yisra’el. Yehoshua devoted them and their cities to destruction.
22
None of the Anaqim remained in the land of the sons of Yisra’el. Only in Azzah, in Gat, and in Ashdod did some remain.
23
And Yehoshua took all the land according to all that Yahuah had spoken to Mosheh. And Yehoshua gave it as an inheritance to Yisra’el according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.
