1
And these are the inheritances that the sons of Yisra’el inherited in the land of Kena’an, which Elazar the kohen, and Yehoshua son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Yisra’el caused them to inherit,
2
by lot as their inheritance, according to what Yahuah had commanded by the hand of Mosheh concerning the nine tribes and the half-tribe.
3
For Mosheh had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half-tribe beyond the Yarden, but to the Leviim he gave no inheritance in their midst.
4
For the sons of Yosef became two tribes, Menasheh and Efrayim. And they gave no portion to the Leviim in the land, except cities to dwell in, with their pasturelands for their livestock and for their possessions.
5
According to what Yahuah had commanded Mosheh, so the sons of Yisra’el did, and they divided the land.
6
And the sons of Yehudah drew near to Yehoshua at Gilgal, and Kalev son of Yefunneh the Qenizzi said to him, “You know the word that Yahuah spoke to Mosheh, the ish of Elohim, concerning me and concerning you at Qadesh-Barnea.
7
Forty years old was I when Mosheh, servant of Yahuah, sent me from Qadesh-Barnea to search out the land, and I returned word to him according to what was in my heart.
8
But my brothers who went up with me caused the heart of the people to melt, while I followed fully after Yahuah my Elohim.
9
And Mosheh swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land upon which your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance for you and for your sons forever, because you followed fully after Yahuah my Elohim.’
10
And now, see, Yahuah has kept me alive, according to what He spoke, these forty-five years, from the time Yahuah spoke this word to Mosheh while Yisra’el walked in the wilderness. And now, see, today I am eighty-five years old.
11
Still today I am as strong as on the day Mosheh sent me. As my strength was then, so my strength is now, for war and for going out and for coming in.
12
And now, give me this mountain of which Yahuah spoke on that day, for you heard on that day that the Anaqim were there, and great fortified cities. Perhaps Yahuah will be with me, and I shall dispossess them, according to what Yahuah spoke.”
13
And Yehoshua blessed him and gave Chevron to Kalev son of Yefunneh as an inheritance.
14
Therefore Chevron became an inheritance to Kalev son of Yefunneh the Qenizzi to this day, because he followed fully after Yahuah, Elohim of Yisra’el.
15
And the name of Chevron formerly was Qiryat-Arba. Arba was the greatest Adam among the Anaqim. And the land rested from war.
