1
And the messenger of Yahuah went up from Gilgal to Bokhim and said, “I brought you up from Mitzrayim and brought you into the land that I swore to your fathers, and I said, ‘I will never break My covenant with you.
2
And you shall not cut a covenant with the inhabitants of this land; their altars you shall tear down.’ But you have not listened to My voice. What is this you have done?
3
Therefore I also said, ‘I will not drive them out from before your face, but they shall be at your sides, and their elohim shall be a snare to you.’”
4
And it came to pass, when the messenger of Yahuah spoke these words to all the sons of Yisra’el, that the people lifted up their voice and wept.
5
And they called the name of that place Bokhim, and they sacrificed there to Yahuah.
6
And Yehoshua sent the people away, and the sons of Yisra’el went, each ish to his inheritance, to possess the land.
7
And the people served Yahuah all the days of Yehoshua, and all the days of the elders who prolonged days after Yehoshua, who had seen all the great work of Yahuah that He had done for Yisra’el.
8
And Yehoshua son of Nun, servant of Yahuah, died, being one hundred and ten years old.
9
And they buried him in the border of his inheritance at Timnat-Cheres, in the hill country of Efrayim, north of Mount Gaash.
10
And all that generation also was gathered to their fathers. And another generation arose after them who did not know Yahuah, nor the work that He had done for Yisra’el.
11
And the sons of Yisra’el did what was evil in the eyes of Yahuah and served the Baalim.
12
And they forsook Yahuah, Elohim of their fathers, who had brought them out from the land of Mitzrayim, and went after other elohim, from among the elohim of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves to them, and provoked Yahuah to anger.
13
And they forsook Yahuah and served Baal and the Ashtarot.
14
And the anger of Yahuah burned against Yisra’el, and He gave them into the hand of plunderers who plundered them, and He sold them into the hand of their enemies all around, and they were no longer able to stand before the face of their enemies.
15
Wherever they went out, the hand of Yahuah was against them for evil, according to what Yahuah had spoken and according to what Yahuah had sworn to them. And they were greatly distressed.
16
And Yahuah raised up shofetim, and they saved them from the hand of those who plundered them.
17
Yet they did not listen even to their shofetim, but went whoring after other elohim and bowed themselves to them. They quickly turned aside from the way in which their fathers had walked, listening to the commandments of Yahuah. They did not do so.
18
And when Yahuah raised up shofetim for them, Yahuah was with the shofet and saved them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the shofet, for Yahuah was moved by their groaning before the face of those who oppressed them and crushed them.
19
And it came to pass, when the shofet died, that they turned back and acted more corruptly than their fathers, going after other elohim to serve them and to bow themselves to them. They did not cause any of their deeds to fall, nor their stubborn way.
20
And the anger of Yahuah burned against Yisra’el, and He said, “Because this nation has transgressed My covenant that I commanded their fathers and has not listened to My voice,
21
I also will no longer dispossess from before their face any of the nations that Yehoshua left when he died,
22
in order to test Yisra’el by them, whether they will guard the way of Yahuah, to walk in it as their fathers guarded it, or not.”
23
And Yahuah left those nations, not dispossessing them quickly, and He did not give them into the hand of Yehoshua.
