1
And the young man Shemu’el was serving Yahuah before Eli. And the word of Yahuah was rare in those days; there was no widespread vision.
2
And it came to pass in that day, while Eli was lying down in his place, and his eyes had begun to grow dim so that he was not able to see,
3
and before the lamp of Elohim had gone out, while Shemu’el was lying down in the temple of Yahuah, where the ark of Elohim was,
4
that Yahuah called to Shemu’el. And he said, “Here I am.”
5
And he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” And he said, “I did not call. Return, lie down.” And he went and lay down.
6
And Yahuah again called, “Shemu’el!” And Shemu’el rose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” And he said, “I did not call, my son. Return, lie down.”
7
And Shemu’el did not yet know Yahuah, and the word of Yahuah had not yet been revealed to him.
8
And Yahuah again called Shemu’el the third time. And he rose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli understood that Yahuah was calling the young man.
9
And Eli said to Shemu’el, “Go, lie down. And it shall be, if He calls to you, that you shall say, ‘Speak, Yahuah, for Your servant is listening.’” And Shemu’el went and lay down in his place.
10
And Yahuah came and stood, and called as time after time, “Shemu’el! Shemu’el!” And Shemu’el said, “Speak, for Your servant is listening.”
11
And Yahuah said to Shemu’el, “See, I am doing a thing in Yisra’el at which both ears of everyone who hears it shall tingle.
12
In that day I will establish against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning even to completion.
13
And I have declared to him that I am judging his house forever for the crookedness that he knew, because his sons were bringing a curse upon themselves, and he did not restrain them.
14
And therefore I have sworn concerning the house of Eli that the crookedness of the house of Eli shall not be covered by sacrifice or by offering forever.”
15
And Shemu’el lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of Yahuah. And Shemu’el feared to declare the vision to Eli.
16
And Eli called Shemu’el and said, “Shemu’el, my son.” And he said, “Here I am.”
17
And he said, “What is the word that He spoke to you? Please do not hide it from me. Thus may Elohim do to you, and thus may He add, if you hide from me a word from all the word that He spoke to you.”
18
And Shemu’el declared to him all the words and hid nothing from him. And he said, “He is Yahuah. What is good in His eyes, let Him do.”
19
And Shemu’el grew, and Yahuah was with him, and He did not let any of his words fall to the earth.
20
And all Yisra’el, from Dan even to Be’er-Sheva, knew that Shemu’el was established as a prophet of Yahuah.
21
And Yahuah continued to appear in Shiloh, for Yahuah revealed Himself to Shemu’el in Shiloh by the word of Yahuah.
