1
And all the tribes of Yisra’el came to Daviyd at Chevron and said, “See, we are your bone and your flesh.
2
Also yesterday and the third day, when Shaul was king over us, you were the one who brought Yisra’el out and brought them in. And Yahuah said to you, ‘You shall shepherd My people Yisra’el, and you shall be ruler over Yisra’el.’”
3
And all the elders of Yisra’el came to the king at Chevron, and King Daviyd cut a covenant with them at Chevron before Yahuah. And they anointed Daviyd as king over Yisra’el.
4
Daviyd was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.
5
In Chevron he reigned over Yehudah seven years and six months, and in Yerushalayim he reigned thirty-three years over all Yisra’el and Yehudah.
6
And the king and his men went to Yerushalayim against the Yevusi, the inhabitants of the land. And they said to Daviyd, “You shall not come in here, for the blind and the lame will turn you away,” saying, “Daviyd shall not come in here.”
7
But Daviyd captured the stronghold of Tziyon. It is the City of Daviyd.
8
And Daviyd said on that day, “Whoever strikes the Yevusi, let him reach the water shaft, and the lame and the blind, hated by the being of Daviyd.” Therefore they say, “The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.”
9
And Daviyd dwelt in the stronghold and called it the City of Daviyd. And Daviyd built all around, from the Millo and inward.
10
And Daviyd went on becoming greater and greater, and Yahuah, Elohim of Hosts, was with him.
11
And Chiram king of Tzor sent messengers to Daviyd, and cedar trees, and craftsmen of wood, and craftsmen of stone for walls, and they built a house for Daviyd.
12
And Daviyd knew that Yahuah had established him as king over Yisra’el, and that He had lifted up his kingdom for the sake of His people Yisra’el.
13
And Daviyd took more concubines and wives from Yerushalayim after he came from Chevron, and more sons and daughters were born to Daviyd.
14
And these are the names of those born to him in Yerushalayim: Shammua, and Shovav, and Natan, and Shəlomah,
15
and Yivchar, and Elishua, and Nefeg, and Yafia,
16
and Elishama, and Elyada, and Elifelet.
17
And the Pelishtim heard that they had anointed Daviyd as king over Yisra’el, and all the Pelishtim went up to seek Daviyd. And Daviyd heard and went down to the stronghold.
18
And the Pelishtim came and spread themselves out in the valley of Refaim.
19
And Daviyd asked of Yahuah, saying, “Shall I go up against the Pelishtim? Will You give them into my hand?” And Yahuah said to Daviyd, “Go up, for giving, I will surely give the Pelishtim into your hand.”
20
And Daviyd came to Baal-Peratzim, and Daviyd struck them there and said, “Yahuah has broken through my enemies before my face like the breaking through of waters.” Therefore he called the name of that place Baal-Peratzim.
21
And they left their idols there, and Daviyd and his men carried them away.
22
And the Pelishtim again went up and spread themselves out in the valley of Refaim.
23
And Daviyd asked of Yahuah, and He said, “You shall not go up. Go around behind them and come upon them opposite the baka trees.
24
And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the baka trees, then act decisively, for then Yahuah has gone out before your face to strike the camp of the Pelishtim.”
25
And Daviyd did so, according to what Yahuah commanded him, and struck the Pelishtim from Geva as far as your coming to Gezer.
