1
And Yahuah sent Natan to Daviyd. And he came to him and said to him: “There were two men in one city, one rich and one poor.
2
The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds.
3
But the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and kept alive. And it grew up together with him and with his sons. It ate from his morsel, drank from his cup, and lay in his bosom. And it was to him like a daughter.
4
And a traveler came to the rich man. But he spared to take from his own flock and from his own herd to prepare for the traveler who had come to him. And he took the ewe lamb of the poor man and prepared it for the ish who had come to him.”
5
And the anger of Daviyd burned exceedingly against the ish. And he said to Natan, “As Yahuah lives, the ish who has done this is a son of death.
6
And he shall restore the ewe lamb fourfold, because he did this thing and because he had no compassion.”
7
And Natan said to Daviyd: “You are the ish. Thus says Yahuah, Elohim of Yisra’el: ‘I anointed you as king over Yisra’el, and I delivered you from the hand of Shaul.
8
And I gave you the House of your master, and the wives of your master into your bosom, and I gave you the House of Yisra’el and Yehudah. And if that were too little, I would have added to you such and such things.
9
Why have you despised the Word of Yahuah, to do what is evil in His eyes? Uriyah the Chitti you struck with the sword, and his ishah you took for yourself as ishah; and him you put to death by the sword of the sons of Ammon.
10
And now, the sword shall not turn aside from your House forever, because you despised Me and took the ishah of Uriyah the Chitti to be your ishah.’
11
Thus says Yahuah: ‘See, I am raising up evil against you from within your own House. And I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your companion, and he shall lie with your wives before the eyes of this sun.
12
For you did it in secret; but I will do this thing before all Yisra’el and before the sun.’”
13
And Daviyd said to Natan, “I have sinned against Yahuah.” And Natan said to Daviyd, “Yahuah also has caused your sin to pass away; you shall not die.
14
Only, because by this thing you have caused the enemies of Yahuah to utterly despise, the son who is born to you shall surely die.”
15
And Natan went to his house. And Yahuah struck the child whom the ishah of Uriyah had borne to Daviyd, and he became gravely sick.
16
And Daviyd sought Elohim on behalf of the child. And Daviyd fasted a fast, and went in and lay all night upon the earth.
17
And the elders of his house rose over him to raise him from the earth, but he was not willing, and he did not eat bread with them.
18
And it came to pass on the seventh day that the child died. And the servants of Daviyd feared to declare to him that the child was dead, for they said, “See, while the child was alive we spoke to him, and he did not listen to our voice. How then shall we say to him, ‘The child is dead’? He may do harm.”
19
And Daviyd saw that his servants were whispering together, and Daviyd understood that the child was dead. And Daviyd said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” And they said, “He is dead.”
20
And Daviyd rose from the earth, washed, anointed himself, and changed his garments. And he came into the House of Yahuah and bowed himself. Then he came to his own house, and he asked, and they set bread before him, and he ate.
21
And his servants said to him, “What is this thing that you have done? For the living child you fasted and wept, but when the child died, you rose and ate bread.”
22
And he said, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept, for I said, ‘Who knows? Yahuah may show me favor, and the child may live.’
23
But now he is dead. Why should I fast? Am I able to cause him to return again? I am going to him, but he shall not return to me.”
24
And Daviyd comforted Bat-Sheva his ishah, and went in to her and lay with her. And she bore a son, and he called his name Shəlomah. And Yahuah loved him.
25
And He sent by the hand of Natan the prophet, and he called his name Yedidyah, because of Yahuah.
26
And Yoav fought against Rabbah of the sons of Ammon and captured the royal city.
27
And Yoav sent messengers to Daviyd and said: “I have fought against Rabbah, and I have also captured the city of waters.
28
And now gather the remainder of the people, encamp against the city, and capture it, lest I capture the city and my name be called over it.”
29
And Daviyd gathered all the people and went to Rabbah, fought against it, and captured it.
30
And he took the crown of Malkam from upon his head. Its weight was a talent of gold, with a precious stone, and it was upon the head of Daviyd. And he brought out the spoil of the city in exceedingly great abundance.
31
And the people who were in it he brought out and set them to the saw, and to iron cutting instruments, and to iron axes, and caused them to pass through the brick kiln. And thus he did to all the cities of the sons of Ammon. And Daviyd and all the people returned to Yerushalayim.
