1
And King Daviyd was old, advanced in days, and they covered him with garments, but he could not become warm.
2
And his servants said to him: “Let them seek for my master the king a young virgin, and let her stand before the king and attend to him, and let her lie in your bosom, that my master the king may become warm.”
3
And they sought a beautiful young ishah throughout all the border of Yisra’el, and found Avishag the Shunammit, and brought her to the king.
4
And the young ishah was exceedingly beautiful, and she attended to the king and served him; but the king did not know her.
5
And Adoniyah son of Chaggit exalted himself, saying: “I will reign.” And he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty ish running before his face.
6
And his father had not grieved him at any time, saying: “Why have you done thus?” And he also was exceedingly good in appearance, and she bore him after Avshalom.
7
And his words were with Yoav son of Tzeruyah and with Evyatar the kohen, and they helped after Adoniyah.
8
But Tzadoq the kohen, and Benayahu son of Yehoyada, and Natan the prophet, and Shimi, and Rei, and the mighty men who belonged to Daviyd, were not with Adoniyah.
9
And Adoniyah sacrificed sheep, and cattle, and fattened animals beside the stone of Zochelet, which is beside Ein-Rogel. And he called all his brothers, sons of the king, and all the ish of Yehudah, servants of the king.
10
But Natan the prophet, and Benayahu, and the mighty men, and Shəlomah his brother, he did not call.
11
And Natan spoke to Bat-Sheva, mother of Shəlomah, saying: “Have you not heard that Adoniyah son of Chaggit has reigned, and Daviyd our master does not know it?
12
And now, come, please, let me counsel you with counsel, that you may save your being and the being of your son Shəlomah.
13
Go and enter to King Daviyd and say to him: ‘Did not you, my master the king, swear to your maidservant, saying: “Shəlomah your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my Throne”? And why then has Adoniyah reigned?’
14
See, while you are still there speaking with the king, I will come in after you and fulfill your words.”
15
And Bat-Sheva went in to the king, into the inner room. And the king was exceedingly old, and Avishag the Shunammit was serving the king.
16
And Bat-Sheva bowed and bowed herself to the king. And the king said: “What is with you?”
17
And she said to him: “My master, you swore by Yahuah your Elohim to your maidservant, saying: ‘Shəlomah your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my Throne.’
18
And now, see, Adoniyah has reigned, and now, my master the king, you do not know it.
19
And he has sacrificed oxen and fattened animals and sheep in abundance, and has called all the sons of the king, and Evyatar the kohen, and Yoav commander of the host; but Shəlomah your servant he has not called.
20
And you, my master the king, the eyes of all Yisra’el are upon you, to declare to them who shall sit upon the Throne of my master the king after him.
21
And it shall be, when my master the king lies down with his fathers, that I and my son Shəlomah shall be counted as offenders.”
22
And see, while she was still speaking with the king, Natan the prophet came.
23
And they declared to the king, saying: “See, Natan the prophet.” And he came before the king and bowed himself to the king with his face to the earth.
24
And Natan said: “My master the king, have you said: ‘Adoniyah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my Throne’?
25
For he has gone down this day and sacrificed oxen and fattened animals and sheep in abundance, and has called all the sons of the king, and the commanders of the host, and Evyatar the kohen. And see, they are eating and drinking before his face, and saying: ‘Let King Adoniyah live!’
26
But me your servant, and Tzadoq the kohen, and Benayahu son of Yehoyada, and Shəlomah your servant, he has not called.
27
Has this matter been done by my master the king, and you have not caused your servants to know who shall sit upon the Throne of my master the king after him?”
28
And King Daviyd answered and said: “Call Bat-Sheva to me.” And she came before the king and stood before the king.
29
And the king swore and said: “As Yahuah lives, who has redeemed my being from every distress,
30
surely as I swore to you by Yahuah, Elohim of Yisra’el, saying: ‘Shəlomah your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my Throne in my place,’ so I will do this day.”
31
And Bat-Sheva bowed with her face to the earth and bowed herself to the king, and said: “Let my master King Daviyd live forever.”
32
And King Daviyd said: “Call to me Tzadoq the kohen, and Natan the prophet, and Benayahu son of Yehoyada.” And they came before the king.
33
And the king said to them: “Take with you the servants of your master, and cause Shəlomah my son to ride upon my own mule, and bring him down to Gichon.
34
And let Tzadoq the kohen and Natan the prophet anoint him there as King over Yisra’el. And blow the shofar and say: ‘Let King Shəlomah live!’
35
And you shall go up after him, and he shall come and sit upon my Throne. And he shall reign in my place. And him I have commanded to be Ruler over Yisra’el and over Yehudah.”
36
And Benayahu son of Yehoyada answered the king and said: “Amen. Thus may Yahuah, Elohim of my master the king, say.
37
As Yahuah was with my master the king, so may He be with Shəlomah, and may He make his Throne greater than the Throne of my master King Daviyd.”
38
And Tzadoq the kohen went down, and Natan the prophet, and Benayahu son of Yehoyada, and the Kereti, and the Peleti. And they caused Shəlomah to ride upon the mule of King Daviyd and brought him to Gichon.
39
And Tzadoq the kohen took the horn of oil from the Tent and anointed Shəlomah. And they blew the shofar, and all the people said: “Let King Shəlomah live!”
40
And all the people went up after him, and the people played flutes and rejoiced with great rejoicing, and the earth split with their voice.
41
And Adoniyah and all those called who were with him heard it as they finished eating. And Yoav heard the sound of the shofar and said: “Why is the voice of the city roaring?”
42
While he was still speaking, see, Yonatan son of Evyatar the kohen came. And Adoniyah said: “Come, for you are an ish of strength, and you bring good news.”
43
And Yonatan answered and said to Adoniyah: “No. Rather, our master King Daviyd has made Shəlomah king.
44
And the king sent with him Tzadoq the kohen, and Natan the prophet, and Benayahu son of Yehoyada, and the Kereti, and the Peleti; and they caused him to ride upon the king’s mule.
45
And Tzadoq the kohen and Natan the prophet anointed him as king at Gichon. And they went up from there rejoicing, and the city is roaring. This is the voice that you heard.
46
And also Shəlomah has sat upon the Throne of the Kingdom.
47
And also the servants of the king came to bless our master King Daviyd, saying: ‘May your Elohim make the Name of Shəlomah better than your name, and make his Throne greater than your Throne.’ And the king bowed himself upon the bed.
48
And the king also said: ‘Blessed be Yahuah, Elohim of Yisra’el, who has given one to sit upon my Throne this day, while my eyes see it.’”
49
And all those called who belonged to Adoniyah trembled and rose, and each ish went his way.
50
And Adoniyah feared because of Shəlomah, and he rose and went and took hold of the horns of the altar.
51
And it was declared to Shəlomah, saying: “See, Adoniyah fears King Shəlomah, and see, he has taken hold of the horns of the altar, saying: ‘Let King Shəlomah swear to me this day that he will not put his servant to death with the sword.’”
52
And Shəlomah said: “If he becomes a son of strength, not one of his hairs shall fall to the earth. But if evil is found in him, then he shall die.”
53
And King Shəlomah sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to King Shəlomah. And Shəlomah said to him: “Go to your house.”
