1
And the sons of the prophets said to Elisha: “See now, the place where we dwell before your face is too narrow for us.
2
Please let us go to the Yarden, and let each ish take from there one beam, and let us make for ourselves there a place to dwell.” And he said: “Go.”
3
And one said: “Please be willing and go with your servants.” And he said: “I will go.”
4
And he went with them. And they came to the Yarden and cut down trees.
5
And it came to pass, as one was causing the beam to fall, that the iron fell into the water. And he cried out and said: “Ah, my master! And it was borrowed!”
6
And the ish of Elohim said: “Where did it fall?” And he showed him the place. And he cut a piece of wood and cast it there, and caused the iron to float.
7
And he said: “Lift it up for yourself.” And he stretched out his hand and took it.
8
And the king of Aram was fighting against Yisra’el, and he took counsel with his servants, saying: “At such and such a place shall be my camp.”
9
And the ish of Elohim sent to the king of Yisra’el, saying: “Guard yourself from passing by this place, for there Aram is coming down.”
10
And the king of Yisra’el sent to the place concerning which the ish of Elohim had said to him and warned him. And he guarded himself there, not once and not twice.
11
And the heart of the king of Aram was stormed concerning this matter. And he called his servants and said to them: “Will you not declare to me which of us is for the king of Yisra’el?”
12
And one of his servants said: “No, my master the king. But Elisha the prophet who is in Yisra’el declares to the king of Yisra’el the words that you speak in your bedchamber.”
13
And he said: “Go and see where he is, and I will send and take him.” And it was declared to him, saying: “See, he is in Dotan.”
14
And he sent there horses, and chariots, and a heavy host. And they came by night and surrounded the city.
15
And the servant of the ish of Elohim rose early and went out, and see, a host was surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his young man said to him: “Ah, my master! What shall we do?”
16
And he said: “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
17
And Elisha prayed and said: “Yahuah, please open his eyes, that he may see.” And Yahuah opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And see, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
18
And they came down to him. And Elisha prayed to Yahuah and said: “Please strike this nation with blindness.” And He struck them with blindness according to the Word of Elisha.
19
And Elisha said to them: “This is not the way, and this is not the city. Walk after me, and I will bring you to the ish whom you seek.” And he led them to Shomron.
20
And it came to pass, when they came into Shomron, that Elisha said: “Yahuah, open the eyes of these, that they may see.” And Yahuah opened their eyes, and they saw. And see, they were in the midst of Shomron.
21
And the king of Yisra’el said to Elisha when he saw them: “My father, shall striking, I surely strike them?”
22
And he said: “You shall not strike. Would you strike those whom you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow? Set bread and water before their face, and let them eat and drink and go to their master.”
23
And he prepared for them a great feast. And they ate and drank, and he sent them away, and they went to their master. And the raiding bands of Aram no longer came into the land of Yisra’el.
24
And it came to pass after this that Ben-Hadad king of Aram gathered all his host and went up and besieged Shomron.
25
And there was a great famine in Shomron. And see, they besieged it until the head of a donkey was worth eighty pieces of silver, and a fourth of a qav of dove’s dung was worth five pieces of silver.
26
And it came to pass, as the king of Yisra’el was passing upon the wall, that an ishah cried out to him, saying: “Save, my master the king!”
27
And he said: “If Yahuah does not save you, from where shall I save you? From the threshing floor or from the winepress?”
28
And the king said to her: “What is with you?” And she said: “This ishah said to me: ‘Give your son, and we shall eat him today; and my son we shall eat tomorrow.’
29
And we boiled my son and ate him. And I said to her on the next day: ‘Give your son, and we shall eat him.’ But she hid her son.”
30
And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the ishah, that he tore his garments. And he was passing upon the wall, and the people saw, and see, sackcloth was beneath, upon his flesh.
31
And he said: “Thus may Elohim do to me, and thus may He add, if the head of Elisha son of Shafat remains upon him this day.”
32
And Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. And he sent an ish from before his face. But before the messenger came to him, he said to the elders: “Do you see that this son of a murderer has sent to remove my head? See, when the messenger comes, shut the door and press him back with the door. Is not the sound of the feet of his master behind him?”
33
While he was still speaking with them, see, the messenger came down to him. And he said: “See, this evil is from Yahuah. Why should I wait for Yahuah any longer?”
