1
In the second year of Yoash son of Yehoachaz, king of Yisra’el, Amatzyahu son of Yoash, king of Yehudah, began to reign.
2
Twenty-five years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Yerushalayim. And the name of his mother was Yehoaddan from Yerushalayim.
3
And he did what was upright in the eyes of Yahuah, yet not like Daviyd his father. According to all that Yoash his father had done, so he did.
4
Only, the high places were not removed. The people were still sacrificing and burning incense upon the high places.
5
And it came to pass, when the Kingdom was strengthened in his hand, that he struck his servants who had struck the king his father.
6
But the sons of those who struck him he did not put to death, according to what is written in the Sefer of the Torah of Mosheh, which Yahuah commanded, saying: “Fathers shall not be put to death for sons, and sons shall not be put to death for fathers; but each ish shall be put to death for his own sin.”
7
He struck Edom in the Valley of Salt, ten thousand, and captured Sela in the battle. And he called its name Yoqte’el, to this day.
8
Then Amatzyahu sent messengers to Yehoash son of Yehoachaz, son of Yehu, king of Yisra’el, saying: “Come, let us see one another face to face.”
9
And Yehoash king of Yisra’el sent to Amatzyahu king of Yehudah, saying: “The thornbush that was in Levanon sent to the cedar that was in Levanon, saying: ‘Give your daughter to my son as ishah.’ And a beast of the field that was in Levanon passed by and trampled the thornbush.
10
Striking, you have surely struck Edom, and your heart has lifted you up. Be honored, and remain in your house. Why should you provoke evil, that you should fall—you and Yehudah with you?”
11
But Amatzyahu did not listen. And Yehoash king of Yisra’el went up, and he and Amatzyahu king of Yehudah saw one another face to face at Beit-Shemesh, which belongs to Yehudah.
12
And Yehudah was struck before Yisra’el, and they fled, each ish to his tent.
13
And Yehoash king of Yisra’el seized Amatzyahu king of Yehudah, son of Yoash, son of Achazyahu, at Beit-Shemesh. And he came to Yerushalayim and broke down the wall of Yerushalayim from the Gate of Efrayim as far as the Corner Gate, four hundred cubits.
14
And he took all the gold and the silver and all the vessels that were found in the House of Yahuah and in the treasuries of the house of the king, and hostages, and returned to Shomron.
15
And the rest of the matters of Yehoash that he did, and his strength, and how he fought with Amatzyahu king of Yehudah, are they not written in the Sefer of the Matters of the Days of the Kings of Yisra’el?
16
And Yehoash lay down with his fathers and was buried in Shomron with the kings of Yisra’el. And Yarovam his son reigned in his place.
17
And Amatzyahu son of Yoash, king of Yehudah, lived after the death of Yehoash son of Yehoachaz, king of Yisra’el, fifteen years.
18
And the rest of the matters of Amatzyahu, are they not written in the Sefer of the Matters of the Days of the Kings of Yehudah?
19
And they cut a conspiracy against him in Yerushalayim, and he fled to Lakhish. And they sent after him to Lakhish and put him to death there.
20
And they carried him upon the horses, and he was buried in Yerushalayim with his fathers in the City of Daviyd.
21
And all the people of Yehudah took Azaryah, and he was sixteen years old, and they made him king in place of his father Amatzyahu.
22
He built Elat and returned it to Yehudah, after the king lay down with his fathers.
23
In the fifteenth year of Amatzyahu son of Yoash, king of Yehudah, Yarovam son of Yoash, king of Yisra’el, began to reign in Shomron, forty-one years.
24
And he did what was evil in the eyes of Yahuah. He did not turn aside from all the sins of Yarovam son of Nevat, by which he caused Yisra’el to sin.
25
He restored the border of Yisra’el from the entrance of Chamat as far as the sea of the Arabah, according to the Word of Yahuah, Elohim of Yisra’el, which He spoke by the hand of His servant Yonah son of Amittai, the prophet who was from Gat-HaChefer.
26
For Yahuah saw the affliction of Yisra’el, that it was exceedingly bitter, and there was none restrained and none abandoned, and there was no helper for Yisra’el.
27
And Yahuah had not spoken to wipe out the Name of Yisra’el from beneath the heavens. And He saved them by the hand of Yarovam son of Yoash.
28
And the rest of the matters of Yarovam, and all that he did, and his strength, how he fought and how he restored Dammeseq and Chamat to Yehudah in Yisra’el, are they not written in the Sefer of the Matters of the Days of the Kings of Yisra’el?
29
And Yarovam lay down with his fathers, with the kings of Yisra’el. And Zekharyah his son reigned in his place.
