1
Yoshiyahu was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Yerushalayim. And the name of his mother was Yedidah daughter of Adayah, from Botzqat.
2
And he did what was upright in the eyes of Yahuah and walked in all the way of Daviyd his father. And he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.
3
And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of King Yoshiyahu that the king sent Shafan son of Atzalyahu, son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the House of Yahuah, saying:
4
“Go up to Chilqiyahu the great kohen, and let him count the silver that has been brought into the House of Yahuah, which the guards of the threshold have gathered from the people.
5
And let them give it into the hand of those doing the work, those appointed over the House of Yahuah, and let them give it to those doing the work who are in the House of Yahuah, to strengthen the breaches of the House:
6
to the craftsmen of wood, and to the builders, and to the masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to strengthen the House.
7
But no accounting shall be made with them concerning the silver given into their hand, for they deal in faithfulness.”
8
And Chilqiyahu the great kohen said to Shafan the scribe: “I have found the Sefer of the Torah in the House of Yahuah.” And Chilqiyahu gave the sefer to Shafan, and he read it.
9
And Shafan the scribe came to the king and returned word to the king and said: “Your servants have poured out the silver that was found in the House and have given it into the hand of those doing the work, those appointed over the House of Yahuah.”
10
And Shafan the scribe declared to the king, saying: “Chilqiyahu the kohen has given me a sefer.” And Shafan read it before the face of the king.
11
And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the Sefer of the Torah, that he tore his garments.
12
And the king commanded Chilqiyahu the kohen, and Achiqam son of Shafan, and Akhbor son of Mikhayah, and Shafan the scribe, and Asayah servant of the king, saying:
13
“Go, seek Yahuah for me, and for the people, and for all Yehudah, concerning the words of this sefer that has been found. For great is the wrath of Yahuah that has been kindled against us, because our fathers did not listen to the words of this sefer, to do according to all that is written concerning us.”
14
And Chilqiyahu the kohen, and Achiqam, and Akhbor, and Shafan, and Asayah went to Chuldah the prophetess, ishah of Shallum son of Tiqvah, son of Charchas, keeper of the garments. And she dwelt in Yerushalayim in the Second Quarter. And they spoke with her.
15
And she said to them: “Thus says Yahuah, Elohim of Yisra’el: ‘Say to the ish who sent you to me:
16
Thus says Yahuah: “See, I am bringing evil upon this place and upon its inhabitants—all the words of the sefer that the king of Yehudah has read—
17
because they have forsaken Me and have burned incense to other elohim, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the work of their hands. And My wrath shall be kindled against this place and shall not be extinguished.”
18
But to the king of Yehudah, who sent you to seek Yahuah, thus you shall say to him: “Thus says Yahuah, Elohim of Yisra’el, concerning the words that you have heard:
19
Because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before the face of Yahuah when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and you tore your garments and wept before My face, I also have heard,” declares Yahuah.
20
“Therefore, see, I am gathering you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your tomb in shalom, and your eyes shall not see all the evil that I am bringing upon this place.”’” And they returned word to the king.
