1
These are those who came to Daviyd at Tziqlag while he was still restrained from before Shaul son of Qish. They were among the mighty ones, helpers in war,
2
armed with bows, using both the right and the left hand with stones and with arrows from the bow. They were from the brothers of Shaul, from Binyamin.
3
The head was Achiezer, then Yoash, sons of Hashemaah the Givati; Yezi’el and Pelet, sons of Azmavet; Berakhah; Yehu the Antoti;
4
Yishmayah the Givoni, a mighty one among the thirty and over the thirty; Yirmeyahu, Yachazi’el, Yochanan, and Yozavad the Gederati;
5
Eluzai, Yerimot, Bealyah, Shemaryahu, and Shefatyahu the Charifi;
6
Elqanah, Yishshiyahu, Azar’el, Yoezer, and Yashoveam the Qorchim;
7
and Yoelah and Zevadyah, sons of Yerocham from Gedor.
8
From the Gadi some separated themselves to Daviyd at the stronghold in the wilderness, mighty ones of strength, ish of the army for war, arranging shield and spear. Their faces were faces of lions, and they were swift as gazelles upon the mountains:
9
Ezer the head, Ovadyah the second, Eliav the third,
10
Mishmannah the fourth, Yirmeyah the fifth,
11
Attai the sixth, Eli’el the seventh,
12
Yochanan the eighth, Elzavad the ninth,
13
Yirmeyahu the tenth, Makhbannai the eleventh.
14
These were from the sons of Gad, heads of the army. The least was equal to one hundred, and the greatest to one thousand.
15
These are those who crossed the Yarden in the first new moon when it overflowed all its banks, and they drove away all those of the valleys, east and west.
16
Some of the sons of Binyamin and Yehudah came to Daviyd at the stronghold.
17
Daviyd went out before them and said, “If you have come to me in peace to help me, my heart shall be united with you. But if to betray me to my enemies, though there is no violence in my palms, may the Elohim of our fathers see and judge.”
18
Then the Ruaḥ clothed Amasai, head of the Thirty: “Yours, Daviyd, and with you, son of Yishai! Peace, peace to you, and peace to the one who helps you, for your Elohim helps you.” And Daviyd received them and placed them among the heads of the troop.
19
Some from Menasheh fell to Daviyd when he came with the Pelishtim for battle against Shaul. But they did not help them, for the rulers of the Pelishtim sent him away by counsel, saying, “With our heads he will fall back to his master Shaul.”
20
As he went to Tziqlag, these from Menasheh fell to him: Adnach, Yozavad, Yedia’el, Mikha’el, Yozavad, Elihu, and Tzilltai, heads of thousands belonging to Menasheh.
21
They helped Daviyd against the troop, for all of them were mighty ones of strength, and they became commanders in the army.
22
Day after day they came to Daviyd to help him, until there was a great camp, like a camp of Elohim.
23
These are the numbers of the heads armed for the army who came to Daviyd at Chevron to turn the kingdom of Shaul over to him according to the mouth of Yahuah:
24
from the sons of Yehudah, bearing shield and spear, six thousand eight hundred armed for the army;
25
from the sons of Shimon, mighty ones of strength for the army, seven thousand one hundred;
26
from the sons of Levi, four thousand six hundred;
27
Yehoyada, ruler of those of Aharon, and with him three thousand seven hundred;
28
Tzadoq, a young mighty one of strength, and twenty-two commanders from his father-house;
29
from the sons of Binyamin, brothers of Shaul, three thousand—for until then most of them guarded the charge of the House of Shaul;
30
from the sons of Efrayim, twenty thousand eight hundred, mighty ones of strength, ish of names in their father-houses;
31
from the half-tribe of Menasheh, eighteen thousand, designated by names to come and make Daviyd king;
32
from the sons of Yissakhar, those knowing understanding of the times, to know what Yisra’el should do: their heads were two hundred, and all their brothers were at their mouth;
33
from Zevulun, fifty thousand going forth to the army, arranging battle with every instrument of war, setting the ranks with an undivided heart;
34
from Naftali, one thousand commanders, and with them thirty-seven thousand with shield and spear;
35
from the Dani, twenty-eight thousand six hundred arranging battle;
36
from Asher, forty thousand going forth to the army to arrange battle;
37
from beyond the Yarden, from the Reuveni, the Gadi, and the half-tribe of Menasheh, one hundred twenty thousand with every instrument of the army for war.
38
All these ish of war, arranging the battle line, came to Chevron with a complete heart to make Daviyd king over all Yisra’el. And all the remainder of Yisra’el were of one heart to make Daviyd king.
39
They were there with Daviyd three days, eating and drinking, because their brothers had prepared for them.
40
Also those near them, as far as Yissakhar, Zevulun, and Naftali, brought bread upon donkeys, camels, mules, and cattle; food of flour, cakes of figs, clusters of raisins, wine, oil, cattle, and sheep in abundance, for there was rejoicing in Yisra’el.
