1
Daviyd was old and full of days, and he made Shəlomah his son king over Yisra’el.
2
He gathered all the commanders of Yisra’el, with the Kohenim and the Leviyim.
3
The Leviyim were counted from thirty years old and upward; their number, by their skulls, by males, was thirty-eight thousand.
4
Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of the House of Yahuah, six thousand were officers and judges,
5
four thousand were gatekeepers, and four thousand praised Yahuah with the instruments that I made for praise.
6
Daviyd divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Qehat, and Merari.
7
Of the Gershuni: Ladan and Shimei.
8
The sons of Ladan: Yechiel the head, Zetam, and Yoel—three.
9
The sons of Shimei: Shəlomot, Chaziel, and Haran—three. These were heads of the father-houses of Ladan.
10
The sons of Shimei: Yachat, Zina, Yeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.
11
Yachat was the head and Zizah the second; but Yeush and Beriah did not multiply sons, so they became one father-house for one enrollment.
12
The sons of Qehat: Amram, Yitzhar, Chevron, and Uzziel—four.
13
The sons of Amram: Aharon and Mosheh. Aharon was separated to set him apart as most set-apart, he and his sons unto the age: to burn incense before Yahuah, to minister to Him, and to bless in His name unto the age.
14
But Mosheh, ish of the Elohim—his sons were called according to the tribe of Levi.
15
The sons of Mosheh: Gershom and Eliezer.
16
The sons of Gershom: Shevuel the head.
17
The sons of Eliezer: Rechavyah the head. Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rechavyah multiplied exceedingly.
18
The sons of Yitzhar: Shəlomit the head.
19
The sons of Chevron: Yeriyahu the head, Amaryah the second, Yachaziel the third, and Yeqamam the fourth.
20
The sons of Uzziel: Mikhah the head and Yishiyah the second.
21
The sons of Merari: Machli and Mushi. The sons of Machli: Elazar and Qish.
22
Elazar died and had no sons, but only daughters; and the sons of Qish their brothers took them as wives.
23
The sons of Mushi: Machli, Eder, and Yeremot—three.
24
These were the sons of Levi according to their father-houses, the heads of the father-houses according to their enrollments, in the number of names by their skulls, doing the work for the service of the House of Yahuah, from twenty years old and upward.
25
For Daviyd said, “Yahuah, Elohim of Yisra’el, has given rest to His people, and He dwells in Yerushalayim unto the age.
26
And also for the Leviyim: there is no need to carry the Dwelling Place or any of its vessels for its service.”
27
For by the last words of Daviyd, these were the number of the sons of Levi from twenty years old and upward.
28
For their station was beside the sons of Aharon for the service of the House of Yahuah: over the courts, over the chambers, over the cleansing of every set-apart thing, and the work of the service of the House of the Elohim;
29
and over the bread of the arrangement, the fine flour for grain offering, the unleavened wafers, what is prepared on the griddle, what is mixed, and every measure of capacity and length;
30
and to stand morning by morning to give thanks and praise to Yahuah, and likewise at evening;
31
and for every lifting of ascending offerings to Yahuah on the Shabbats, the new moons, and the appointed times, by number according to the right-ruling upon them, continually before Yahuah.
32
They guarded the charge of the Tent of Appointment, the charge of the Set-Apart Place, and the charge of the sons of Aharon their brothers, for the service of the House of Yahuah.
