1
Then Eliyphaz the Teimani answered and said:
2
“Can a mighty one be profitable to El? Surely the discerning is profitable to himself.
3
Is it a delight to Shaddai if you are righteous? Is there gain if you make your ways complete?
4
Is it because of your fear that He corrects you and enters Judgment with you?
5
Is not your evil great, and is there no end to your crooked deeds?
6
For you took a pledge from your brothers without cause and stripped the garments of the naked.
7
You did not give water to the weary to drink, and from the hungry you withheld bread.
8
The land belonged to the ish of arm, and the lifted of face dwelt in it.
9
You sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless were crushed.
10
Therefore snares are all around you, and sudden dread terrifies you,
11
or darkness, so that you cannot see, and an abundance of waters covers you.
12
Is not Eloah high in the heavens? See the head of the stars, how exalted they are.
13
Yet you say, ‘What does El know? Can He judge through the thick cloud?
14
Thick clouds are His concealment, and He cannot see; He walks the circuit of the heavens.’
15
Shall you guard the ancient path on which men of trouble walked,
16
who were seized before their time, whose foundation was poured away as a river?
17
They said to El, ‘Turn from us,’ and, ‘What can Shaddai do to them?’
18
Yet He filled their houses with good, though the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19
The righteous see and rejoice, and the innocent mocks them:
20
‘Surely our adversary is cut off, and fire devours their remnant.’
21
Become familiar with Him, please, and be at shalom; by these, good shall come to you.
22
Receive, please, Torah from His mouth, and set His Words in your heart.
23
If you return to Shaddai, you shall be built; if you remove crookedness far from your tent.
24
Then set ore upon the dust and gold of Ophir among the stones of the torrents.
25
Shaddai shall be your ore and silver of strength for you.
26
Then you shall delight yourself in Shaddai and lift your face to Eloah.
27
You shall entreat Him, and He shall hear you; and you shall complete your vows.
28
You shall decree a Word, and it shall rise for you; and light shall shine upon your Ways.
29
When they lower, you shall say, ‘Exaltation’; and He saves the low of eyes.
30
He delivers one who is not innocent; he is delivered by the purity of your palms.”
