1
Do not contend with a powerful Adam, lest you fall into his hands.
2
Do not quarrel with a wealthy Adam, lest he set his weight against you; for gold has destroyed many and turned aside the hearts of sovereigns.
3
Do not contend with an Adam who speaks excessively, and do not pile wood upon his fire.
4
Do not mock one lacking discipline, lest your ancestors be dishonored.
5
Do not reproach an Adam who turns away from sin; remember that we all stand under correction.
6
Do not dishonor an Adam in his old age, for some of us also are growing old.
7
Do not rejoice over one who has died; remember that we all reach completion.
8
Do not neglect the account of the wise; remain among their proverbs. From them you shall learn discipline and how to minister before great ones.
9
Do not miss the account of elders, for they also learned from their fathers. From them you shall learn understanding and how to give an answer in a time of need.
10
Do not ignite the coals of a sinner, lest you burn in the fire of his flame.
11
Do not rise against the face of an insolent one, lest he sit in ambush against your mouth.
12
Do not lend to an Adam stronger than you; if you lend, consider it lost.
13
Do not pledge beyond your power; if you pledge, prepare yourself to pay.
14
Do not enter judgment against a judge, for they shall judge for him according to his honor.
15
Do not travel the Way with a reckless one, lest he become a burden against you. He shall act according to his own will, and through his foolishness you shall perish with him.
16
Do not make battle with an angry one, and do not cross the wilderness with him; for blood is as nothing in his eyes, and where there is no help he shall cast you down.
17
Do not take counsel with a fool, for he cannot contain a word.
18
Do nothing hidden before a foreigner, for you do not know what he shall bring forth.
19
Do not uncover your heart to every Adam, and do not expect him to return favor to you.
