1
And the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their array.
2
And on the seventh day Elohim completed His work that He had made, and He ceased on the seventh day from all His work that He had made.
3
And Elohim blessed the seventh day and set it apart, because in it He ceased from all His work that Elohim had created and made.
4
These are the origins of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that Yahuah Elohim made earth and heavens.
5
And no shrub of the field was yet upon the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprung forth, because Yahuah Elohim had not caused rain to fall upon the earth, and there was no Adam to work the ground.
6
But a flow rose from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground.
7
And Yahuah Elohim formed Adam from dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and Adam became a living being.
8
And Yahuah Elohim planted a garden in Eden, toward the east, and there He placed Adam whom He had formed.
9
And from the ground Yahuah Elohim caused to spring forth every tree desirable to sight and good for food, and the Tree of Life in the midst of the garden, and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
10
And a river went forth from Eden to water the garden, and from there it divided and became four heads.
11
The name of the first is Pishon. It surrounds the whole land of Chavilah, where there is gold.
12
And the gold of that land is good; there are bdellium and the stone of shoham.
13
And the name of the second river is Gichon. It surrounds the whole land of Kush.
14
And the name of the third river is Chiddeqel. It goes toward the east of Ashur. And the fourth river is Perath.
15
And Yahuah Elohim took Adam and settled him in the Garden of Eden, to work it and to guard it.
16
And Yahuah Elohim commanded Adam, saying, “From every tree of the garden you may freely eat;
17
but from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, you shall not eat from it, because in the day you eat from it, dying you shall die.”
18
And Yahuah Elohim said, “It is not good for Adam to be alone. I will make for him a helper corresponding to him.”
19
And from the ground Yahuah Elohim formed every living creature of the field and every flying creature of the heavens, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living being, that was its name.
20
And Adam gave names to all the livestock, to the flying creatures of the heavens, and to every living creature of the field; but for Adam there was not found a helper corresponding to him.
21
And Yahuah Elohim caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept. And He took one of his sides and closed the flesh beneath it.
22
And Yahuah Elohim built the side that He had taken from Adam into a woman, and He brought her to Adam.
23
And Adam said: “This one, at last, is bone from my bones and flesh from my flesh. This one shall be called Ishah, because from Ish this one was taken.”
24
Therefore an ish leaves his father and his mother and joins himself to his ishah, and they become one flesh.
25
And the two of them were naked, Adam and his ishah, and they were not ashamed.
