1
And it came to pass, when Yitzchaq had grown old and his eyes had become dim from seeing, that he called Esav his elder son and said to him, “My son.” And he said to him, “See, I am here.”
2
And he said, “See now, I have grown old; I do not know the day of my death.
3
And now, please take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me.
4
And make for me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me that I may eat, so that my soul may bless you before I die.”
5
And Rivqah was listening when Yitzchaq spoke to Esav his son. And Esav went to the field to hunt game and bring it.
6
And Rivqah spoke to Yaaqov her son, saying, “See, I heard your father speaking to Esav your brother, saying,
7
‘Bring me game and make for me savory food, that I may eat and bless you before Yahuah before my death.’
8
And now, my son, listen to my voice according to what I command you.
9
Go now to the flock and take for me from there two good young goats, and I will make them into savory food for your father, such as he loves.
10
And you shall bring it to your father, and he shall eat, so that he may bless you before his death.”
11
And Yaaqov said to Rivqah his mother, “See, Esav my brother is a hairy ish, and I am a smooth ish.
12
Perhaps my father will feel me, and I shall be in his eyes as one who mocks him, and I shall bring upon myself a curse and not a blessing.”
13
And his mother said to him, “Upon me be your curse, my son. Only listen to my voice, and go take them for me.”
14
And he went and took them and brought them to his mother, and his mother made savory food such as his father loved.
15
And Rivqah took the garments of Esav her elder son, the desirable ones that were with her in the house, and clothed Yaaqov her younger son.
16
And she placed the skins of the young goats upon his hands and upon the smooth part of his neck.
17
And she placed the savory food and the bread that she had made into the hand of Yaaqov her son.
18
And he came to his father and said, “My father.” And he said, “See, I am here. Who are you, my son?”
19
And Yaaqov said to his father, “I am Esav your firstborn. I have done according to what you spoke to me. Rise now, please sit and eat from my game, so that your soul may bless me.”
20
And Yitzchaq said to his son, “How is it that you found it so quickly, my son?” And he said, “Because Yahuah your Elohim caused it to come before me.”
21
And Yitzchaq said to Yaaqov, “Please draw near, and I will feel you, my son, whether you are truly my son Esav or not.”
22
And Yaaqov drew near to Yitzchaq his father, and he felt him and said, “The voice is the voice of Yaaqov, but the hands are the hands of Esav.”
23
And he did not recognize him, because his hands were hairy like the hands of Esav his brother. And he blessed him.
24
And he said, “Are you truly my son Esav?” And he said, “I am.”
25
And he said, “Bring it near to me, and I will eat from the game of my son, so that my soul may bless you.” And he brought it near to him, and he ate. And he brought him wine, and he drank.
26
And Yitzchaq his father said to him, “Please draw near and kiss me, my son.”
27
And he drew near and kissed him. And he smelled the smell of his garments and blessed him, and said: “See, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that Yahuah has blessed.
28
And may Elohim give you from the dew of the heavens, and from the richness of the earth, and abundance of grain and new wine.
29
Let peoples serve you, and nations bow themselves to you. Be master over your brothers, and let the sons of your mother bow themselves to you. Cursed is everyone who curses you, and blessed is everyone who blesses you.”
30
And it came to pass, when Yitzchaq had finished blessing Yaaqov, and Yaaqov had scarcely gone out from the presence of Yitzchaq his father, that Esav his brother came in from his hunting.
31
And he also made savory food and brought it to his father, and said to his father, “Let my father rise and eat from the game of his son, so that your soul may bless me.”
32
And Yitzchaq his father said to him, “Who are you?” And he said, “I am your son, your firstborn, Esav.”
33
And Yitzchaq trembled with an exceedingly great trembling and said, “Who then was the one who hunted game and brought it to me, and I ate from all of it before you came, and I blessed him? And blessed he shall remain.”
34
When Esav heard the words of his father, he cried with an exceedingly great and bitter cry, and said to his father, “Bless me—me also, my father!”
35
And he said, “Your brother came with deceit and has taken your blessing.”
36
And Esav said, “Is he not rightly called Yaaqov? For he has followed at my heel these two times: he took my birthright, and see, now he has taken my blessing.” And he said, “Have you not reserved a blessing for me?”
37
And Yitzchaq answered and said to Esav, “See, I have set him as master over you, and all his brothers I have given to him as servants, and with grain and new wine I have sustained him. And what then shall I do for you, my son?”
38
And Esav said to his father, “Do you have only one blessing, my father? Bless me—me also, my father.” And Esav lifted his voice and wept.
39
And Yitzchaq his father answered and said to him: “See, away from the richness of the earth shall your dwelling be, and away from the dew of the heavens above.
40
And by your sword you shall live, and your brother you shall serve. But it shall come to pass, when you become restless, that you shall break his yoke from upon your neck.”
41
And Esav hated Yaaqov because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him. And Esav said within his heart, “The days of mourning for my father are drawing near; then I will kill Yaaqov my brother.”
42
And the words of Esav her elder son were told to Rivqah. And she sent and called Yaaqov her younger son and said to him, “See, Esav your brother comforts himself concerning you by planning to kill you.
43
And now, my son, listen to my voice. Rise, flee for yourself to Lavan my brother, to Charan.
44
And dwell with him some days, until the fury of your brother turns away,
45
until the anger of your brother turns away from you and he forgets what you did to him. Then I will send and take you from there. Why should I be bereaved of both of you in one day?”
46
And Rivqah said to Yitzchaq, “I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Chet. If Yaaqov takes an ishah from the daughters of Chet like these, from the daughters of the land, what is my life to me?”
