1
In the third month after the sons of Yisra’el went out from the land of Mitzrayim, on that very day, they came into the wilderness of Sinai.
2
And they journeyed from Refidim and came into the wilderness of Sinai, and they encamped in the wilderness. And Yisra’el encamped there before the mountain.
3
And Mosheh went up to Elohim, and Yahuah called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Yaaqov and tell the sons of Yisra’el:
4
‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Mitzrayim, and how I carried you upon wings of eagles and brought you to Myself.
5
And now, if listening, you will truly listen to My voice and guard My covenant, then you shall be My treasured possession from among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine.
6
And you shall be to Me a kingdom of kohenim and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Yisra’el.”
7
And Mosheh came and called for the elders of the people, and set before their faces all these words that Yahuah had commanded him.
8
And all the people answered together and said, “All that Yahuah has spoken, we will do.” And Mosheh returned the words of the people to Yahuah.
9
And Yahuah said to Mosheh, “See, I am coming to you in the thickness of the cloud, so that the people may hear when I speak with you, and also believe in you perpetually.” And Mosheh told the words of the people to Yahuah.
10
And Yahuah said to Mosheh, “Go to the people and set them apart today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments.
11
And let them be ready for the third day, for on the third day Yahuah will come down before the eyes of all the people upon Mount Sinai.
12
And you shall set a boundary for the people all around, saying, ‘Guard yourselves from going up onto the mountain or touching its edge. Whoever touches the mountain, dying, shall surely die.
13
No hand shall touch him, but stoning, he shall be stoned, or shooting, he shall be shot. Whether beast or ish, he shall not live.’ When the ram’s horn draws out long, they may come up toward the mountain.”
14
And Mosheh went down from the mountain to the people and set the people apart, and they washed their garments.
15
And he said to the people, “Be ready for the third day. Do not draw near to an ishah.”
16
And it came to pass on the third day, when morning came, that there were thunderings and flashes of lightning and a heavy cloud upon the mountain, and the voice of a shofar exceedingly strong. And all the people who were in the camp trembled.
17
And Mosheh brought the people out from the camp to meet Elohim, and they stationed themselves at the foot of the mountain.
18
And Mount Sinai was entirely covered in smoke, because Yahuah had come down upon it in fire. And its smoke went up like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled exceedingly.
19
And the voice of the shofar grew stronger and stronger. Mosheh spoke, and Elohim answered him with a voice.
20
And Yahuah came down upon Mount Sinai, upon the top of the mountain. And Yahuah called Mosheh to the top of the mountain, and Mosheh went up.
21
And Yahuah said to Mosheh, “Go down, warn the people, lest they break through toward Yahuah to see, and many of them fall.
22
And also let the kohenim who draw near to Yahuah set themselves apart, lest Yahuah break forth against them.”
23
And Mosheh said to Yahuah, “The people are not able to come up to Mount Sinai, for You Yourself warned us, saying, ‘Set a boundary around the mountain and set it apart.’”
24
And Yahuah said to him, “Go, descend. Then you shall come up, you and Aharon with you. But do not let the kohenim and the people break through to come up toward Yahuah, lest He break forth against them.”
25
And Mosheh went down to the people and spoke to them.
