1
And Qorach son of Yitzhar, son of Qehat, son of Levi, took men, together with Datan and Aviram sons of Eliav, and On son of Pelet, sons of Reuven.
2
And they rose up before Mosheh, with two hundred and fifty men from the sons of Yisra’el, rulers of the congregation, called ones of the assembly, men of name.
3
And they gathered themselves against Mosheh and against Aharon and said to them, “You have taken too much upon yourselves, for all the congregation, all of them, are holy, and Yahuah is in their midst. Why then do you lift yourselves above the assembly of Yahuah?”
4
And Mosheh heard, and he fell upon his face.
5
And he spoke to Qorach and to all his congregation, saying, “In the morning Yahuah will make known who is His and who is holy, and He will cause him to draw near to Himself; and whom He chooses, He will cause to draw near to Himself.
6
Do this: take firepans for yourselves, Qorach and all his congregation,
7
and place fire in them and put incense upon them before Yahuah tomorrow. And it shall be that the ish whom Yahuah chooses, he is the holy one. You have taken too much upon yourselves, sons of Levi!”
8
And Mosheh said to Qorach, “Hear now, sons of Levi:
9
Is it a small thing to you that the Elohim of Yisra’el has separated you from the congregation of Yisra’el, to bring you near to Himself, to serve the service of the Dwelling of Yahuah, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them?
10
And He brought you near, and all your brothers, the sons of Levi, with you. And now you seek the kehunah also?
11
Therefore you and all your congregation are gathered against Yahuah. And Aharon—what is he, that you murmur against him?”
12
And Mosheh sent to call Datan and Aviram sons of Eliav, but they said, “We will not come up.
13
Is it a small thing that you brought us up from a land flowing with milk and honey to put us to death in the wilderness, that ruling, you would also rule over us?
14
Moreover, you have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us an inheritance of fields and vineyards. Will you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up.”
15
And Mosheh became exceedingly angry and said to Yahuah, “Do not turn toward their grain offering. I have not taken one donkey from them, nor have I done evil to one of them.”
16
And Mosheh said to Qorach, “You and all your congregation, be before Yahuah—you, they, and Aharon—tomorrow.
17
And each ish shall take his firepan and place incense upon it, and each ish shall bring his firepan before Yahuah, two hundred and fifty firepans; and you and Aharon, each ish his firepan.”
18
And each ish took his firepan, and they placed fire in them and put incense upon them, and they stood at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting with Mosheh and Aharon.
19
And Qorach gathered all the congregation against them at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. And the glory of Yahuah appeared to all the congregation.
20
And Yahuah spoke to Mosheh and to Aharon, saying,
21
“Separate yourselves from the midst of this congregation, and I will consume them in a moment.”
22
And they fell upon their faces and said, “El, Elohim of the ruach of all flesh, shall one ish sin, and will You be angry with all the congregation?”
23
And Yahuah spoke to Mosheh, saying,
24
“Speak to the congregation, saying: Go up from around the dwelling of Qorach, Datan, and Aviram.”
25
And Mosheh rose and went to Datan and Aviram, and the elders of Yisra’el went after him.
26
And he spoke to the congregation, saying, “Turn away, please, from the tents of these wicked men, and do not touch anything that belongs to them, lest you be swept away in all their sins.”
27
And they went up from around the dwelling of Qorach, Datan, and Aviram, from every side. And Datan and Aviram came out and stood at the entrance of their tents, with their women and their sons and their little ones.
28
And Mosheh said, “By this you shall know that Yahuah has sent me to do all these works, for they are not from my own heart:
29
If these men die as all Adam dies, and if the visitation of all Adam is visited upon them, then Yahuah has not sent me.
30
But if Yahuah creates a new thing, and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them and all that belongs to them, and they go down alive into Sheol, then you shall know that these men have despised Yahuah.”
31
And it came to pass, as he finished speaking all these words, that the ground beneath them split open.
32
And the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, and their households, and every Adam belonging to Qorach, and all their possessions.
33
And they and all that belonged to them went down alive into Sheol, and the earth covered them, and they perished from the midst of the assembly.
34
And all Yisra’el who were around them fled at their cry, for they said, “Lest the earth swallow us also!”
35
And fire went out from Yahuah and consumed the two hundred and fifty men who brought near the incense.
36
And Yahuah spoke to Mosheh, saying,
37
“Say to Elazar son of Aharon the kohen that he lift up the firepans from among the burning, and scatter the fire far away, for they have become holy.
38
The firepans of these sinners against their own beings—let them make them into hammered plates as a covering for the altar, for they brought them near before Yahuah and they became holy. And they shall become a sign to the sons of Yisra’el.”
39
And Elazar the kohen took the bronze firepans that those who were burned had brought near, and they hammered them out as a covering for the altar,
40
as a remembrance to the sons of Yisra’el, so that no stranger who is not from the seed of Aharon shall draw near to burn incense before Yahuah, and so that he shall not become like Qorach and like his congregation, according to what Yahuah had spoken to him by the hand of Mosheh.
41
And on the next day all the congregation of the sons of Yisra’el murmured against Mosheh and against Aharon, saying, “You have put to death the people of Yahuah.”
42
And it came to pass, when the congregation gathered themselves against Mosheh and against Aharon, that they turned toward the Tent of Meeting, and see, the cloud covered it, and the glory of Yahuah appeared.
43
And Mosheh and Aharon came before the Tent of Meeting.
44
And Yahuah spoke to Mosheh, saying,
45
“Rise up from the midst of this congregation, and I will consume them in a moment.” And they fell upon their faces.
46
And Mosheh said to Aharon, “Take the firepan and place fire in it from upon the altar, and put incense upon it, and carry it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them, for wrath has gone out from before Yahuah; the plague has begun.”
47
And Aharon took it according to what Mosheh had spoken and ran into the midst of the assembly. And see, the plague had begun among the people. And he placed the incense and made atonement for the people.
48
And he stood between the dead and the living, and the plague was restrained.
49
And those who died in the plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, besides those who died in the matter of Qorach.
50
And Aharon returned to Mosheh at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, and the plague was restrained.
