1
“If one slain is found in the land that Yahuah your Elohim is giving you to possess, fallen in the field, and it is not known who struck him,
2
then your elders and your judges shall go out, and they shall measure to the cities that are around the slain one.
3
And it shall be that the city nearest to the slain one, the elders of that city shall take a heifer from the herd that has not been worked and that has not drawn in a yoke.
4
And the elders of that city shall bring the heifer down to a wadi with running water, which is neither worked nor sown, and there in the wadi they shall break the neck of the heifer.
5
And the kohenim, the sons of Levi, shall draw near, for Yahuah your Elohim has chosen them to serve Him and to bless in the name of Yahuah, and by their mouth every dispute and every stroke shall be decided.
6
And all the elders of that city nearest to the slain one shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the wadi.
7
And they shall answer and say, ‘Our hands did not shed this blood, and our eyes did not see it.
8
Make atonement for Your people Yisra’el, whom You redeemed, Yahuah, and do not place innocent blood in the midst of Your people Yisra’el.’ And the blood shall be atoned for them.
9
And you shall remove the innocent blood from your midst when you do what is right in the eyes of Yahuah.
10
When you go out to war against your enemies, and Yahuah your Elohim gives them into your hand, and you take them captive,
11
and you see among the captives an ishah beautiful in form, and you desire her and take her for yourself as an ishah,
12
then you shall bring her into the midst of your house, and she shall shave her head and make her nails,
13
and she shall remove the garment of her captivity from upon her and dwell in your house and weep for her father and for her mother a month of days. And afterward you may go in to her and become her husband, and she shall be your ishah.
14
And it shall be, if you no longer delight in her, then you shall send her away according to her being, but selling, you shall not sell her for silver. You shall not deal tyrannically with her, because you have humbled her.
15
If an ish has two wives, one loved and one hated, and both the loved and the hated bear sons to him, and the firstborn son belongs to the hated,
16
then it shall be, on the day he causes his sons to inherit what belongs to him, he shall not be able to make the son of the loved the firstborn before the face of the son of the hated, who is the firstborn.
17
But the firstborn, the son of the hated, he shall recognize, by giving him a double portion of all that is found with him, for he is the first of his strength; the judgment of the firstborn belongs to him.
18
If an ish has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not listen to the voice of his father or to the voice of his mother, and they discipline him but he does not listen to them,
19
then his father and his mother shall seize him and bring him out to the elders of his city and to the gate of his place.
20
And they shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he does not listen to our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’
21
And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, and he shall die. And you shall remove the evil from your midst, and all Yisra’el shall hear and fear.
22
And if there is in an ish a sin worthy of the judgment of death, and he is put to death, and you hang him upon a tree,
23
his corpse shall not remain all night upon the tree, but burying, you shall surely bury him on that day, for one hanged is a curse of Elohim. And you shall not make unclean your land that Yahuah your Elohim is giving you as an inheritance.”
