1
The Word that came to Yirmeyahu from Yahuah, saying,
2
“Rise and descend to the house of the potter, and there I shall cause you to hear My Words.”
3
So I descended to the house of the potter, and see, he was doing work upon the two stones.
4
And the vessel he was making from clay was ruined in the hand of the potter. Then he returned and made it into another vessel, as was upright in the eyes of the potter to make.
5
And the Word of Yahuah came to me, saying,
6
“Am I unable to do to you as this potter, House of Yisra’el?” declares Yahuah. “See, as clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in My hand, House of Yisra’el.
7
At one moment I may speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to uproot, to pull down, and to destroy.
8
But if that nation turns from its evil concerning which I spoke, then I shall relent concerning the evil that I purposed to do to it.
9
And at one moment I may speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant.
10
But if it does evil in My eyes by not hearing My voice, then I shall relent concerning the good that I said I would do for it.
11
And now, speak to the ish of Yehudah and to the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, saying, ‘Thus says Yahuah: See, I am forming evil against you and devising a purpose against you. Return now, each ish from his evil way, and make your ways and your deeds good.’
12
But they say, ‘It is hopeless. For after our own thoughts we shall walk, and each ish shall do the stubbornness of his evil heart.’
13
Therefore thus says Yahuah: ‘Ask now among the nations: Who has heard things like these? The virgin of Yisra’el has done a very horrible thing.
14
Does the snow of Levanon leave the rock of the field? Or are the cold flowing waters from afar uprooted?
15
Yet My people have forgotten Me. They burn incense to emptiness, and they cause them to stumble in their Ways— the ancient paths— to walk in side roads, a way not built up;
16
to appoint their land as a desolation, an everlasting hissing. Everyone passing over it shall be astonished and shake his head.
17
Like an east wind I shall scatter them before the face of the enemy. I shall show them the back of the neck and not the face in the day of their destruction.’”
18
Then they said, “Come, and let us devise schemes against Yirmeyahu. For Torah shall not perish from the Kohen, nor counsel from the wise, nor Word from the prophet. Come, and let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not give attention to any of his Words.”
19
Give attention to me, Yahuah, and hear the voice of those contending with me.
20
Shall evil be repaid for good? For they dug a pit for my being. Remember that I stood before Your face to speak good concerning them, to turn Your fury away from them.
21
Therefore give their sons to famine and pour them out by the hand of the sword. Let their women become bereaved and widows; let their men be killed by death, their young men struck by the sword in battle.
22
Let a cry be heard from their houses when You bring a troop upon them suddenly. For they dug a pit to capture me and hid snares for my feet.
23
Yet You, Yahuah, know all their counsel against me for death. Do not cover their crookedness, and do not wipe their sin from before Your face. Let them stumble before Your face; act against them in the time of Your anger.
