1
And Pashchur son of Immer, the Kohen— who was chief overseer in the House of Yahuah— heard Yirmeyahu prophesying these Words.
2
Then Pashchur struck Yirmeyahu the prophet and put him in the stocks at the upper Gate of Binyamin, which was by the House of Yahuah.
3
And it came to be on the next day that Pashchur brought Yirmeyahu out from the stocks. And Yirmeyahu said to him, “Yahuah does not call your name Pashchur, but Terror-All-Around.
4
For thus says Yahuah: ‘See, I am giving you as a terror to yourself and to all your lovers. They shall fall by the sword of their enemies while your eyes see. And I shall give all Yehudah into the hand of the sovereign of Bavel; and he shall exile them to Bavel and strike them with the sword.
5
And I shall give all the wealth of this city, all its labor, all its precious things, and all the treasuries of the sovereigns of Yehudah into the hand of their enemies. They shall plunder them, take them, and bring them to Bavel.
6
And you, Pashchur, and all who dwell in your house, shall go into captivity. To Bavel you shall come, and there you shall die, and there you shall be buried— you and all your lovers to whom you prophesied by falsehood.’”
7
You persuaded me, Yahuah, and I was persuaded. You were stronger than I, and You prevailed. I have become a laughter all day; everyone mocks me.
8
For as often as I speak, I cry out; I call, “Violence and destruction!” For the Word of Yahuah became to me reproach and mockery all day.
9
And I said, “I shall not remember Him, nor shall I speak again in His Name.” But it became in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones. I was weary of containing it, and I was unable.
10
For I heard the slander of many: “Terror all around! Report, and let us report him.” Every ish of my shalom watches for my fall: “Perhaps he shall be persuaded, and we shall prevail against him and take our vengeance upon him.”
11
But Yahuah is with me like a terrifying mighty one. Therefore my persecutors shall stumble and shall not prevail. They shall be greatly ashamed, for they did not act wisely— an everlasting humiliation that shall not be forgotten.
12
But Yahuah of Hosts tests the righteous; He sees the kidneys and the heart. Let me see Your vengeance upon them, for to You I revealed my cause.
13
Sing to Yahuah; praise Yahuah, for He has delivered the being of the poor from the hand of evildoers.
14
Cursed is the day on which I was born. Let the day my mother bore me not be favored.
15
Cursed is the ish who brought good news to my father, saying, “A male son has been born to you,” causing him great joy.
16
Let that ish become like the cities that Yahuah overthrew and did not relent. Let him hear a cry in the morning and an alarm at the time of midday,
17
because he did not put me to death from the womb, so that my mother might have become my grave and her womb pregnant forever.
18
Why did I come forth from the womb to see labor and grief, and that my days should end in shame?
