1
The Word that came to Yirmeyahu from Yahuah in the tenth year of Tzidqiyahu sovereign of Yehudah— which was the eighteenth year of Nevukhadretztzar.
2
And at that time the army of the sovereign of Bavel was besieging Yerushalayim, and Yirmeyahu the prophet was confined in the courtyard of the guard at the house of the sovereign of Yehudah.
3
For Tzidqiyahu sovereign of Yehudah had confined him, saying, “Why do you prophesy, saying, ‘Thus says Yahuah: See, I am giving this city into the hand of the sovereign of Bavel, and he shall capture it;
4
and Tzidqiyahu sovereign of Yehudah shall not escape from the hand of the Kasdim, but giving, he shall be given into the hand of the sovereign of Bavel. His mouth shall speak with his mouth, and his eyes shall see his eyes;
5
and he shall bring Tzidqiyahu to Bavel, and there he shall remain until I visit him,’ declares Yahuah. ‘Though you fight with the Kasdim, you shall not prosper’?”
6
And Yirmeyahu said, “The Word of Yahuah came to me, saying,
7
‘See, Chanamel son of Shallum your uncle is coming to you, saying, “Acquire for yourself my field that is in Anatot, for the Judgment of redemption is yours to acquire it.”’
8
And Chanamel son of my uncle came to me, according to the Word of Yahuah, to the courtyard of the guard, and said to me, ‘Please acquire my field that is in Anatot, which is in the land of Binyamin, for the Judgment of Inheritance is yours, and the redemption is yours. Acquire it for yourself.’ Then I knew that this was the Word of Yahuah.
9
And I acquired the field from Chanamel son of my uncle, which was in Anatot, and weighed out the silver to him— seventeen sheqels of silver.
10
And I wrote it in a scroll and sealed it, called witnesses, and weighed the silver in the balances.
11
Then I took the scroll of acquisition— the sealed one according to the command and statutes, and the open one—
12
and I gave the scroll of acquisition to Barukh son of Neriyahu son of Machseyahu, before the eyes of Chanamel son of my uncle, before the eyes of the witnesses who had written in the scroll of acquisition, and before the eyes of all the ish of Yehudah sitting in the courtyard of the guard.
13
And I commanded Barukh before their eyes, saying,
14
‘Thus says Yahuah of Hosts, Elohim of Yisra’el: Take these scrolls— this sealed scroll of acquisition and this open scroll— and place them in an earthen vessel so that they may stand many days.’
15
For thus says Yahuah of Hosts, Elohim of Yisra’el: ‘Houses, fields, and vineyards shall again be acquired in this land.’
16
And I prayed to Yahuah after I gave the scroll of acquisition to Barukh son of Neriyahu, saying,
17
‘Ah, Adonai Yahuah! See, You made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm. No Word is too difficult for You.
18
You do covenant-faithfulness to thousands and repay the crookedness of fathers into the bosom of their sons after them— the great and mighty El, Yahuah of Hosts is His Name;
19
great in counsel and abundant in deed, whose eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of Adam, to give each ish according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds;
20
who set signs and wonders in the land of Mitzrayim, even to this day, and in Yisra’el and among Adam, and made for Yourself a Name as it is this day;
21
and brought Your people Yisra’el out from the land of Mitzrayim with signs, wonders, a strong hand, an outstretched arm, and great terror;
22
and gave them this land that You swore to their fathers to give them— a land flowing with milk and honey.
23
And they entered and possessed it, but they did not hear Your voice or walk in Your Torah. They did nothing of all You commanded them to do. Therefore You caused all this evil to meet them.
24
See, the siege mounds have come to the city to capture it, and the city is given into the hand of the Kasdim who fight against it, because of sword, famine, and pestilence. What You spoke has come to be, and see, You see it.
25
Yet You said to me, Adonai Yahuah, “Acquire the field with silver and call witnesses,” though the city is given into the hand of the Kasdim.’”
26
And the Word of Yahuah came to Yirmeyahu, saying,
27
“See, I am Yahuah, Elohim of all flesh. Is any Word too difficult for Me?
28
Therefore thus says Yahuah: See, I am giving this city into the hand of the Kasdim and into the hand of Nevukhadretztzar sovereign of Bavel, and he shall capture it.
29
And the Kasdim who fight against this city shall come, kindle this city with fire, and burn it— with the houses upon whose roofs they burned incense to Baal and poured drink offerings to other elohim in order to provoke Me.
30
For the sons of Yisra’el and the sons of Yehudah have done only evil in My eyes from their youth. For the sons of Yisra’el only provoke Me with the work of their hands,” declares Yahuah.
31
“For this city has been to Me for My anger and for My fury from the day they built it even to this day, so that I remove it from before My face,
32
because of all the evil of the sons of Yisra’el and the sons of Yehudah that they did to provoke Me— they, their sovereigns, their rulers, their Kohenim, their prophets, the ish of Yehudah, and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim.
33
And they turned to Me the back of the neck and not the face. Though I taught them, rising early and teaching, they did not hear to receive correction.
34
And they placed their abominations in the House upon which My Name is called, to defile it.
35
And they built the high places of Baal in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through to Molekh— which I did not command them, nor did it rise upon My heart, that they should do this abomination to cause Yehudah to sin.
36
And now, therefore, thus says Yahuah, Elohim of Yisra’el, concerning this city of which you say, ‘It is given into the hand of the sovereign of Bavel by sword, famine, and pestilence’:
37
See, I am gathering them from all the lands to which I drove them in My anger, My fury, and great wrath. I shall return them to this place and cause them to dwell in security.
38
And they shall become My people, and I shall become their Elohim.
39
And I shall give them one heart and one Way, to fear Me all the days, for their good and the good of their sons after them.
40
And I shall cut an everlasting Covenant with them, that I shall not turn away from doing them good. And I shall place My fear in their hearts so that they do not turn away from Me.
41
And I shall rejoice over them to do them good, and shall plant them in this land in truth, with all My heart and with all My being.
42
For thus says Yahuah: As I brought upon this people all this great evil, so I shall bring upon them all the good that I speak concerning them.
43
And the field shall be acquired in this land of which you say, ‘It is desolate, without Adam or beast; it is given into the hand of the Kasdim.’
44
Fields shall be acquired with silver; scrolls shall be written and sealed; and witnesses shall be called in the land of Binyamin, all around Yerushalayim, in the cities of Yehudah, in the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the Negev. For I shall return their captivity,” declares Yahuah.
