1
The Word that came to Yirmeyahu concerning all the ish of Yehudah dwelling in the land of Mitzrayim— those dwelling at Migdol, Tachpanches, Nof, and in the land of Patros—saying,
2
“Thus says Yahuah of Hosts, Elohim of Yisra’el: You have seen all the evil that I brought upon Yerushalayim and upon all the cities of Yehudah. See, they are a waste this day, with no one dwelling in them,
3
because of their evil that they did to provoke Me, going to burn incense and serve other elohim whom they did not know— they, you, or your fathers.
4
And I sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising early and sending, saying, ‘Please do not do this abominable Word that I hate.’
5
But they did not hear or incline their ear to return from their evil, not burning incense to other elohim.
6
Therefore My fury and My anger were poured out and burned in the cities of Yehudah and in the streets of Yerushalayim; and they became a waste and a desolation, as it is this day.
7
And now, thus says Yahuah, Elohim of Hosts, Elohim of Yisra’el: Why are you doing great evil against your own beings, to cut off from yourselves ish and ishah, child and nursing one, from the midst of Yehudah, leaving yourselves no remnant;
8
provoking Me with the works of your hands, burning incense to other elohim in the land of Mitzrayim where you entered to dwell as foreigners, so as to cut yourselves off and become a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?
9
Have you forgotten the evil of your fathers, the evil of the sovereigns of Yehudah, the evil of their women, your own evil, and the evil of your women, which they did in the land of Yehudah and in the streets of Yerushalayim?
10
They have not been crushed even to this day; they have not feared or walked in My Torah and My statutes that I set before your faces and before the faces of your fathers.
11
Therefore thus says Yahuah of Hosts, Elohim of Yisra’el: See, I am setting My face against you for evil and to cut off all Yehudah.
12
And I shall take the remnant of Yehudah who set their faces to enter the land of Mitzrayim to dwell there as foreigners, and all of them shall be consumed. In the land of Mitzrayim they shall fall; by sword and famine they shall be consumed. From small even to great, by sword and famine they shall die, and they shall become a curse, an astonishment, a reproach, and a humiliation.
13
And I shall visit those dwelling in the land of Mitzrayim as I visited Yerushalayim— by sword, famine, and pestilence.
14
And the remnant of Yehudah who entered the land of Mitzrayim to dwell there as foreigners shall have no escapee or survivor to return to the land of Yehudah to which they lift their beings to return and dwell. For they shall not return, except escapees.”
15
Then all the men who knew that their women burned incense to other elohim, and all the women standing by— a great assembly— and all the people dwelling in the land of Mitzrayim in Patros answered Yirmeyahu, saying,
16
“The Word that you spoke to us in the Name of Yahuah— we shall not hear you.
17
But doing, we shall do every word that has gone out from our mouth: to burn incense to the queen of the heavens and pour out drink offerings to her, as we did, we and our fathers, our sovereigns and our rulers, in the cities of Yehudah and in the streets of Yerushalayim. Then we were satisfied with bread, and we were well and saw no evil.
18
But from the time we ceased burning incense to the queen of the heavens and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked all and have been consumed by sword and famine.”
19
And the women said, “When we burned incense to the queen of the heavens and poured out drink offerings to her, was it apart from our men that we made cakes for her in her image and poured out drink offerings to her?”
20
Then Yirmeyahu said to all the people— to the men, to the women, and to all the people who answered him a word—saying,
21
“The incense that you burned in the cities of Yehudah and in the streets of Yerushalayim— you, your fathers, your sovereigns, your rulers, and the people of the land— did not Yahuah remember them, and did it not ascend upon His heart?
22
And Yahuah was no longer able to bear before the face of the evil of your deeds, before the face of the abominations you did. Therefore your land became a waste, an astonishment, and a curse, without inhabitant, as it is this day.
23
Because you burned incense, sinned against Yahuah, did not hear the voice of Yahuah, and did not walk in His Torah, His statutes, and His testimonies, therefore this evil has met you, as it is this day.”
24
And Yirmeyahu said to all the people and to all the women, “Hear the Word of Yahuah, all Yehudah who are in the land of Mitzrayim.
25
Thus says Yahuah of Hosts, Elohim of Yisra’el, saying: ‘You and your women have spoken with your mouth and fulfilled with your hands, saying, “Establishing, we shall establish our vows that we vowed, to burn incense to the queen of the heavens and pour out drink offerings to her.” Establishing, establish your vows, and doing, do your vows!’
26
Therefore hear the Word of Yahuah, all Yehudah dwelling in the land of Mitzrayim: ‘See, I have sworn by My great Name,’ says Yahuah, ‘that My Name shall no longer be called in the mouth of any ish of Yehudah in all the land of Mitzrayim, saying, “As Adonai Yahuah lives.”
27
See, I am watching over them for evil and not for good. And all the ish of Yehudah who are in the land of Mitzrayim shall be consumed by sword and famine until they come to an end.
28
And escapees from the sword shall return from the land of Mitzrayim to the land of Yehudah—few in number. Then all the remnant of Yehudah who entered the land of Mitzrayim to dwell there as foreigners shall know whose Word shall stand— Mine or theirs.
29
And this shall be the sign for you,’ declares Yahuah, ‘that I am visiting you in this place, so that you may know that standing, My Words shall stand against you for evil.’
30
Thus says Yahuah: ‘See, I am giving Pharaoh Chophra, sovereign of Mitzrayim, into the hand of his enemies and into the hand of those seeking his being, as I gave Tzidqiyahu sovereign of Yehudah into the hand of Nevukhadretztzar sovereign of Bavel, his enemy and the one seeking his being.’”
