1
The Word that Yahuah spoke concerning Bavel, concerning the land of the Kasdim, by the hand of Yirmeyahu the prophet:
2
“Declare among the nations and cause it to be heard. Lift a banner; cause it to be heard; do not conceal it. Say, ‘Bavel is captured; Bel is ashamed; Merodakh is shattered. Her carved images are ashamed; her idols are shattered.’
3
For a nation has ascended against her from the north. It shall appoint her land as a desolation, and no one shall dwell in it. From Adam even to beast, they have wandered; they have gone.
4
In those days and at that time,” declares Yahuah, “the sons of Yisra’el shall come, they and the sons of Yehudah together. Walking and weeping, they shall go, and Yahuah their Elohim they shall seek.
5
They shall ask the Way to Tziyon, their faces toward it: ‘Come, and let us join ourselves to Yahuah in an everlasting Covenant that shall not be forgotten.’
6
My people have become lost sheep. Their shepherds caused them to wander; they turned them away upon the mountains. From mountain to hill they walked; they forgot their resting place.
7
All who found them devoured them, and their adversaries said, ‘We are not guilty, because they sinned against Yahuah, the habitation of Righteousness— Yahuah, the Hope of their fathers.’
8
Flee from the midst of Bavel; go out from the land of the Kasdim. Become like male goats before the face of the flock.
9
For see, I am awakening and bringing against Bavel an assembly of great nations from the land of the north. They shall arrange themselves against her; from there she shall be captured. Their arrows are like those of a mighty one acting wisely; none shall return empty.
10
And Kasdim shall become spoil. All who plunder her shall be satisfied,” declares Yahuah.
11
“Because you rejoice, because you exult, you who plunder My Inheritance; because you leap like a heifer in the grass and neigh like mighty stallions,
12
your mother shall be greatly ashamed; she who bore you shall be humiliated. See, she shall be the least of the nations— a wilderness, dry land, and desert.
13
Because of the wrath of Yahuah she shall not be inhabited, but all of her shall become a desolation. Everyone passing over Bavel shall be astonished and hiss over all her wounds.
14
Arrange yourselves against Bavel all around, all who bend the bow. Shoot at her; do not spare arrows, for against Yahuah she has sinned.
15
Shout against her all around. She has given her hand; her supports have fallen; her walls are pulled down. For this is the vengeance of Yahuah. Avenge yourselves upon her; as she did, do to her.
16
Cut off the sower from Bavel and the one holding the sickle in the time of harvest. Before the face of the oppressing sword, each ish shall turn to his people, and each ish shall flee to his own land.
17
Yisra’el is a scattered sheep; lions drove him away. The first to devour him was the sovereign of Ashshur; and this last one broke his bones— Nevukhadretztzar sovereign of Bavel.
18
Therefore thus says Yahuah of Hosts, Elohim of Yisra’el: See, I am visiting the sovereign of Bavel and his land as I visited the sovereign of Ashshur.
19
And I shall return Yisra’el to his pasture. He shall feed on Karmel and Bashan, and upon Mount Ephrayim and Gilad his being shall be satisfied.
20
In those days and at that time,” declares Yahuah, “the crookedness of Yisra’el shall be sought, but there shall be none; and the sins of Yehudah, but they shall not be found. For I shall forgive those whom I cause to remain.
21
Ascend against the land of Meratayim, against it and against the inhabitants of Peqod. Destroy and devote them after their face,” declares Yahuah, “and do according to all I commanded you.
22
A sound of battle is in the land, and great fracture.
23
How the hammer of all the earth is cut down and broken! How Bavel has become an astonishment among the nations!
24
I set a snare for you, and you were captured, Bavel, though you did not know. You were found and also seized, because against Yahuah you contended.
25
Yahuah has opened His treasury and brought out the instruments of His wrath, for this is a work for Adonai Yahuah of Hosts in the land of the Kasdim.
26
Come against her from the end. Open her storehouses. Heap her up like piles and devote her; let no remnant be hers.
27
Slaughter all her bulls; let them descend to slaughter. Woe to them, for their day has come, the time of their visitation.
28
The voice of those fleeing and escaping from the land of Bavel, to declare in Tziyon the vengeance of Yahuah our Elohim, the vengeance of His Temple.
29
Cause archers to hear against Bavel, all who bend the bow. Encamp against her all around; let there be no escape. Repay her according to her work; according to all she did, do to her. For against Yahuah she acted proudly, against the Holy One of Yisra’el.
30
Therefore her young men shall fall in her squares, and all her men of battle shall be silenced in that day,” declares Yahuah.
31
“See, I am against you, Proud One,” declares Adonai Yahuah of Hosts, “for your day has come, the time I visit you.
32
And the Proud One shall stumble and fall, with no one raising him. And I shall kindle fire in his cities, and it shall devour all around him.”
33
Thus says Yahuah of Hosts: “The sons of Yisra’el and the sons of Yehudah are oppressed together. All who captured them hold them firmly; they refuse to send them away.
34
Their Redeemer is strong; Yahuah of Hosts is His Name. Pleading, He shall plead their cause, in order to cause the earth to rest and to cause the inhabitants of Bavel to tremble.
35
A sword is against the Kasdim,” declares Yahuah, “and against the inhabitants of Bavel, against her rulers and against her wise ones.
36
A sword is against the boasters, and they shall become foolish. A sword is against her mighty ones, and they shall be shattered.
37
A sword is against their horses and their chariots, and against all the mixed people in her midst, and they shall become as women. A sword is against her treasuries, and they shall be plundered.
38
A drought is against her waters, and they shall dry up. For it is a land of carved images, and through terrifying things they act madly.
39
Therefore desert creatures shall dwell there with jackals, and daughters of the ostrich shall dwell in her. She shall not be inhabited again forever, nor shall she be dwelt in from generation to generation.
40
As Elohim overthrew Sedom and Amorah and their neighbors,” declares Yahuah, “no ish shall dwell there, and no son of Adam shall dwell in her.
41
See, a people comes from the north, and a great nation and many sovereigns are awakened from the farthest parts of the earth.
42
Bow and javelin they hold. They are cruel and have no compassion. Their voice roars like the sea, and upon horses they ride, arranged as an ish for battle against you, daughter of Bavel.
43
The sovereign of Bavel has heard their report, and his hands have fallen slack. Distress has seized him, writhing like an ishah laboring in birth.
44
See, like a lion he ascends from the pride of the Yarden against the enduring pasture. For in a moment I shall cause them to run away from her, and whoever is chosen I shall appoint over her. For who is like Me? Who shall summon Me? And who is this shepherd who shall stand before My face?
45
Therefore hear the counsel of Yahuah that He has counseled against Bavel, and His purposes that He has purposed against the land of the Kasdim: Surely they shall drag away the little ones of the flock; surely He shall make their pasture desolate over them.
46
At the sound, ‘Bavel is captured!’ the earth shakes, and a cry is heard among the nations.”
