1
To the Overseer, to Yedutun. A melody of Daviyd.
2
I said, “I guard my ways from sinning with my tongue. I guard my mouth with a muzzle while the wicked is before me.”
3
I became mute in silence; I was still even from good, but my pain was stirred.
4
My heart grew hot within me; in my meditation a fire burned. Then I spoke with my tongue:
5
“Make me know my end, Yahuah, and the measure of my days—what it is. Let me know how fleeting I am.
6
See, You made my days as handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing before You. Surely every Adam standing firm is altogether vapor. Selah.
7
Surely an ish walks about as a shadow; surely they roar for emptiness. He heaps up wealth and does not know who gathers it.
8
And now, for what do I wait, Adonai? My expectation is in You.
9
Rescue me from all my transgressions. Do not set me as the reproach of the fool.
10
I am mute; I do not open my mouth, for You have done it.
11
Remove Your plague from me; by the hostility of Your hand I am consumed.
12
With corrections for crookedness You discipline an ish; like a moth You melt what he treasures. Surely every Adam is vapor. Selah.
13
Hear my prayer, Yahuah, and give ear to my cry. Do not be silent at my tears, for I am a stranger with You, a sojourner like all my fathers.
14
Look away from me, that I may brighten, before I depart and am no more.”
