1
To the Overseer. Of the sons of Qorach. A Maskiyl.
2
Elohim, with our ears we have heard; our fathers recounted to us the work You worked in their days, in days of old.
3
You dispossessed nations by Your hand and planted them; You afflicted peoples and sent them out.
4
For they did not possess the land by their own sword, nor did their arm save them; but Your right hand, Your arm, and the Light of Your face, because You delighted in them.
5
You are He, my King, Elohim; command Salvation for Ya’aqov.
6
Through You we push our adversaries; through Your Name we tread down those rising against us.
7
For I do not trust in my bow, and my sword does not save me.
8
But You have saved us from our adversaries and put those hating us to shame.
9
In Elohim we boast all day, and we thank Your Name forever. Selah.
10
Yet You have rejected and humiliated us, and You do not go out with our armies.
11
You make us turn backward from the adversary, and those hating us plunder for themselves.
12
You give us like sheep for food and scatter us among the nations.
13
You sell Your people for no wealth and gain nothing by their price.
14
You set us as a reproach to our neighbors, a mockery and derision to those around us.
15
You set us as a proverb among nations, a shaking of the head among peoples.
16
All day my humiliation is before me, and the shame of my face covers me,
17
because of the voice of the reproacher and reviler, because of the face of enemy and avenger.
18
All this has come upon us, yet we have not forgotten You or dealt falsely with Your Covenant.
19
Our heart has not turned backward, nor have our steps turned from Your path,
20
though You crushed us in a place of dragons and covered us with death-shadow.
21
If we forgot the Name of our Elohim or spread our palms toward a foreign el,
22
would Elohim not search this out? For He knows the hidden things of the heart.
23
Yet for Your sake we are killed all day; we are considered sheep for slaughter.
24
Awake! Why do You sleep, Adonai? Rise! Do not reject forever.
25
Why do You hide Your face and forget our affliction and oppression?
26
For our being is bowed to the dust; our belly clings to the earth.
27
Arise as our Help, and redeem us because of Your covenant-love.
