1
Let me sing, please, for my beloved, a song of my beloved concerning his vineyard. My beloved had a vineyard upon a very fruitful hill.
2
And he dug it, and cleared it of stones, and planted it with a choice vine. And he built a tower in its midst, and also hewed out a winepress in it. And he waited for it to produce grapes, but it produced worthless fruit.
3
“And now, inhabitants of Yerushalayim and ish of Yehudah, please judge between Me and My vineyard.
4
What more was there to do for My vineyard that I did not do in it? Why, when I waited for grapes, did it produce worthless fruit?
5
And now, please, I will make known to you what I will do to My vineyard: I will remove its hedge, and it shall be consumed. I will break down its wall, and it shall be trampled.
6
And I will make it a wasteland. It shall not be pruned, and it shall not be hoed, and thorn and brier shall rise up. And I will command the clouds not to rain rain upon it.”
7
For the vineyard of Yahuah of Hosts is the House of Yisra’el, and the ish of Yehudah is the planting of His delight. And He waited for Judgment, but see—bloodshed; for Righteousness, but see—a cry.
8
Woe to those who join house to house, who bring field near to field, until there is no place left, and you dwell alone in the midst of the land.
9
In my ears, Yahuah of Hosts: “Surely many houses shall become desolation, great and good houses, without inhabitant.
10
For ten acres of vineyard shall produce one bath, and a chomer of seed shall produce one ephah.”
11
Woe to those who rise early in the morning to pursue strong drink, who continue until night, while wine inflames them.
12
And lyre and harp, tambourine and flute, and wine are at their feasts, but the work of Yahuah they do not regard, and the deed of His hands they do not see.
13
Therefore My people go into exile because they have no knowledge. And their honored men are men of famine, and their multitude is dried with thirst.
14
Therefore Sheol has enlarged its being and opened its mouth without measure. And her splendor, and her multitude, and her tumult, and the one rejoicing in her shall descend into it.
15
And Adam shall be bowed down, and ish shall be humbled, and the eyes of the exalted shall be brought low.
16
But Yahuah of Hosts shall be exalted in Judgment, and the holy El shall show Himself holy in Righteousness.
17
And lambs shall graze according to their pasture, and strangers shall eat among the ruins of the fat ones.
18
Woe to those who draw crookedness with cords of emptiness, and sin as with cart ropes;
19
who say: “Let Him hurry, let Him hasten His work, that we may see it. And let the counsel of the Holy One of Yisra’el draw near and come, that we may know it.”
20
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who set darkness for light and light for darkness, who set bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.
21
Woe to those wise in their own eyes and understanding before their own faces.
22
Woe to those mighty at drinking wine and men of strength at mixing strong drink,
23
who justify the wicked for a bribe and remove the Righteousness of the righteous from him.
24
Therefore, as a tongue of fire consumes stubble, and dry grass sinks into flame, their root shall become like decay, and their blossom shall go up like dust, because they rejected the Torah of Yahuah of Hosts and despised the Word of the Holy One of Yisra’el.
25
Therefore the anger of Yahuah burned against His people, and He stretched out His hand against them and struck them. And the mountains trembled, and their corpses became like refuse in the midst of the streets. For all this His anger has not turned back, and His hand is still stretched out.
26
And He will lift up a banner to the nations from afar, and whistle to one from the end of the earth. And see, swiftly, quickly, it comes.
27
None among them is weary, and none stumbles. None slumbers, and none sleeps. The belt of their loins is not loosened, and the strap of their sandals is not broken.
28
Their arrows are sharpened, and all their bows are bent. The hooves of their horses are accounted like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind.
29
Their roaring is like a lioness; they roar like young lions. And they growl and seize prey, and carry it away, with none to deliver.
30
And in that day they shall roar against them like the roaring of the sea. And one shall look to the land, and see—darkness, distress, and light is darkened in its clouds.
