1
For there shall be no gloom for her who was in anguish. As in the former time He brought contempt upon the land of Zevulun and the land of Naftali, but in the latter time He has made glorious the way of the sea, beyond the Yarden, Galil of the nations.
2
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light. Upon those dwelling in a land of the shadow of death, light has shone.
3
You have multiplied the nation; You have increased its joy. They rejoice before Your face as with the joy of harvest, as men rejoice when they divide spoil.
4
For the yoke of his burden, and the staff upon his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, You have shattered as in the day of Midyan.
5
For every boot of the warrior in the shaking of battle, and every garment rolled in blood, shall be for burning, fuel for fire.
6
For a child has been born to us, a son has been given to us, and the dominion shall be upon his shoulder. And his name shall be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty El, Father of Continuity, Prince of Shalom.
7
Of the increase of his dominion and of shalom there shall be no end, upon the Throne of Daviyd and over his Kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with Judgment and with Righteousness, from now and until forever. The zeal of Yahuah of Hosts shall do this.
8
Adonai sent a Word against Yaaqov, and it fell upon Yisra’el.
9
And all the people shall know— Efrayim and the inhabitant of Shomron— who say in pride and greatness of heart:
10
“Bricks have fallen, but with cut stone we will build. Sycamores have been cut down, but cedars we will put in their place.”
11
And Yahuah shall lift up the adversaries of Retzin against him, and He shall stir up his enemies:
12
Aram from the east and the Pelishtim from behind, and they shall devour Yisra’el with a full mouth. For all this His anger has not turned back, and His hand is still stretched out.
13
Yet the people did not return to the One striking them, and Yahuah of Hosts they did not seek.
14
And Yahuah shall cut off from Yisra’el head and tail, palm branch and reed, in one day.
15
The elder and the lifted in face— he is the head. And the prophet teaching falsehood— he is the tail.
16
And those leading this people cause them to wander, and those being led by them are swallowed up.
17
Therefore Adonai shall not rejoice over their young men, and upon their fatherless and their widows He shall have no compassion, for everyone is profane and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks foolishness. For all this His anger has not turned back, and His hand is still stretched out.
18
For wickedness burns like fire. It consumes thorn and brier, and kindles in the thickets of the forest, and they rise upward in a column of smoke.
19
By the wrath of Yahuah of Hosts the land is scorched, and the people become like fuel for fire. No ish has compassion upon his brother.
20
And one cuts on the right and is hungry, and eats on the left and is not satisfied. Each ish eats the flesh of his own arm:
21
Menasheh against Efrayim, and Efrayim against Menasheh, and together they are against Yehudah. For all this His anger has not turned back, and His hand is still stretched out.
