1
On that day Yahushua went out from the house and sat beside the sea.
2
And great crowds gathered around him, so that he entered a boat and sat, and the whole crowd stood upon the shore.
3
And he spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “See— the sower went out to sow.
4
And as he sowed, some seed fell beside the road, and the birds came and devoured it.
5
And some fell upon rocky ground, where it did not have much soil. And immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth.
6
But when the sun rose, it was scorched. And because it had no root, it withered.
7
And some fell among thorns. And the thorns came up and choked it.
8
But some fell upon good soil and gave fruit— one a hundredfold, one sixty, and one thirty.
9
Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.”
10
And the talmidim came near and said to him: “Why do you speak to them in parables?”
11
And he answered and said to them: “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of the heavens, but to them it has not been given.
12
For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he shall have abundance. But whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken from him.
13
Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing, they do not truly see, and hearing, they do not truly hear or understand.
14
And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Yeshayahu, which says: ‘Hearing, you shall hear, but you shall not understand. And seeing, you shall see, but you shall not perceive.
15
For the heart of this people has become dull. Their ears have become heavy, and they have shut their eyes, lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn back, and I heal them.’
16
But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.
17
For truly I tell you: many prophets and righteous ones desired to see what you see and did not see it, and to hear what you hear and did not hear it.
18
Therefore hear the parable of the sower.
19
When anyone hears the Word of the Kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown beside the road.
20
And the one sown upon rocky ground is the one who hears the Word and immediately receives it with joy.
21
Yet he has no root within himself and lasts only for a time. And when pressure or persecution arises because of the Word, he immediately stumbles.
22
And the one sown among thorns is the one who hears the Word, but the anxiety of this age and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the Word, and it becomes unfruitful.
23
But the one sown upon good soil is the one who hears the Word and understands it. This one truly bears fruit and produces— one a hundredfold, one sixty, and one thirty.”
24
He set another parable before them, saying: “The Kingdom of the heavens may be compared to an ish who sowed good seed in his field.
25
But while Adam slept, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.
26
And when the stalk sprouted and produced fruit, then the weeds also appeared.
27
And the servants of the master of the house came near and said to him: ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? From where then does it have weeds?’
28
And he said to them: ‘An enemy has done this.’ And the servants said to him: ‘Do you desire that we go and gather them?’
29
But he said: ‘No, lest while gathering the weeds, you uproot the wheat with them.
30
Let both grow together until the harvest. And at the time of the harvest I shall say to the reapers: Gather first the weeds and bind them into bundles to burn them. But gather the wheat into my storehouse.’”
31
He set another parable before them, saying: “The Kingdom of the heavens is like a mustard seed which an ish took and sowed in his field.
32
It is smaller than the other seeds, but when it has grown, it becomes greater than the garden plants and becomes like a tree, so that the birds of the heavens come and make nests in its branches.”
33
He spoke another parable to them: “The Kingdom of the heavens is like leaven which an ishah took and hid in three measures of flour until all of it was leavened.”
34
Yahushua spoke all these things to the crowds in parables. And apart from a parable he did not speak to them,
35
so that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled: “I shall open my mouth in parables. I shall utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.”
36
Then Yahushua left the crowds and entered the house. And his talmidim came near to him, saying: “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.”
37
And he answered and said: “The one sowing the good seed is the Son of Adam.
38
And the field is the world. And the good seed is the sons of the Kingdom. And the weeds are the sons of the evil one.
39
And the enemy who sowed them is the adversary. And the harvest is the completion of the age. And the reapers are messengers.
40
Therefore just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so it shall be at the completion of the age.
41
The Son of Adam shall send out his messengers, and they shall gather out of his Kingdom everything that causes stumbling and those who work lawlessness,
42
and shall cast them into the furnace of fire. There shall be weeping and grinding of teeth.
43
Then the righteous shall shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.
44
The Kingdom of the heavens is like treasure hidden in a field, which an ish found and hid again. And because of his joy, he goes and sells everything he has and buys that field.
45
Again, the Kingdom of the heavens is like a merchant searching for fine pearls.
46
And finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold everything he had and bought it.
47
Again, the Kingdom of the heavens is like a net cast into the sea and gathering from every kind.
48
And when it was full, they drew it to the shore, sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but threw away the worthless.
49
So it shall be at the completion of the age. The messengers shall go out and separate the wicked from among the righteous,
50
and cast them into the furnace of fire. There shall be weeping and grinding of teeth.”
51
Yahushua said to them: “Have you understood all these things?” They said to him: “Yes.”
52
And he said to them: “Therefore every scribe who has been instructed in the Kingdom of the heavens is like an ish, master of a house, who brings out from his treasury things new and things old.”
53
And it came to pass, when Yahushua finished these parables, he departed from there.
54
And coming into his own region, he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said: “From where did this one receive this wisdom and these powerful works?
55
Is this not the builder’s son? Is not his mother called Miryam? And are not his brothers Yaaqov, Yoseph, Shim’on, and Yehudah?
56
And are not all his sisters here with us? From where then did this one receive all these things?”
57
And they stumbled because of him. But Yahushua said to them: “A prophet is not without honor except in his own region and in his own house.”
58
And he did not do many powerful works there because of their lack of trust.
