1
And the Perushim and Tzadduqim came near, testing him, and asked him to show them a sign from the heavens.
2
But he answered and said to them: “When evening comes, you say: ‘It shall be fair weather, for the heavens are red.’
3
And in the morning: ‘Today there shall be a storm, for the heavens are red and threatening.’ You know how to discern the face of the heavens, but you are not able to discern the signs of the times.
4
An evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of Yonah.” And leaving them, he departed.
5
And when the talmidim came to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.
6
And Yahushua said to them: “See, guard yourselves from the leaven of the Perushim and Tzadduqim.”
7
And they reasoned among themselves, saying: “It is because we did not bring bread.”
8
But Yahushua, knowing this, said: “You of little trust, why are you reasoning among yourselves because you have no bread?
9
Do you still not understand? Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many baskets you gathered?
10
Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many baskets you gathered?
11
How do you not understand that I was not speaking to you about bread? But guard yourselves from the leaven of the Perushim and Tzadduqim.”
12
Then they understood that he did not tell them to guard themselves from the leaven of bread, but from the teaching of the Perushim and Tzadduqim.
13
And when Yahushua came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his talmidim, saying: “Who do Adam say the Son of Adam is?”
14
And they said: “Some say Yochanan the Immerser. Others, Eliyahu. And others, Yirmeyahu or one of the prophets.”
15
He said to them: “But you— who do you say I am?”
16
And Shim’on Kepha answered and said: “You are the Anointed, the Son of the living Elohim.”
17
And Yahushua answered and said to him: “Blessed are you, Shim’on bar-Yonah, for flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father who is in the heavens.
18
And I also tell you: you are Kepha, and upon this rock I shall build my assembly, and the gates of Sheol shall not prevail against it.
19
And I shall give you the keys of the Kingdom of the heavens. And whatever you bind upon the earth shall be bound in the heavens. And whatever you loose upon the earth shall be loosed in the heavens.”
20
Then he commanded the talmidim that they should tell no one that he was the Anointed.
21
From that time Yahushua began to show his talmidim that it was necessary for him to go to Yerushalayim and suffer many things from the elders, and chief kohenim, and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.
22
And Kepha took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying: “Far be this from you, Master. This shall not happen to you.”
23
But he turned and said to Kepha: “Get behind me, adversary. You are a stumbling block to me, because you are not setting your mind upon the things of Elohim, but upon the things of Adam.”
24
Then Yahushua said to his talmidim: “If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his execution stake, and follow me.
25
For whoever desires to save his life shall lose it. But whoever loses his life because of me shall find it.
26
For what shall it profit an Adam if he gains the whole world but loses his own being? Or what shall an Adam give in exchange for his being?
27
For the Son of Adam is about to come in the glory of his Father with his messengers, and then he shall repay each one according to his works.
28
Truly I tell you: there are some standing here who shall certainly not taste death until they see the Son of Adam coming in his Kingdom.
