1
And it happened in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the inhabited land should be registered.
2
This registration was the first when Quirinius was governing Syria.
3
And all went to be registered, each one to his own city.
4
And Yoseph also went up from Galil, from the city of Natzaret, into Yehudah, to the city of Daviyd, which is called Beit-Lechem, because he was from the House and lineage of Daviyd,
5
to be registered with Miryam, the ishah betrothed to him, who was pregnant.
6
And it happened, while they were there, the days were fulfilled for her to give birth.
7
And she bore her firstborn son, wrapped him in cloths, and laid him in a feeding trough, because there was no place for them in the guest room.
8
And there were shepherds in that same region, living out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock during the night.
9
And a messenger of Yahuah stood before them, and the glory of Yahuah shone around them. And they feared with great fear.
10
And the messenger said to them: “Do not fear. For see— I announce to you good news of great joy which shall be for all the people.
11
For today there has been born for you in the city of Daviyd a Deliverer, who is the Anointed, the Master.
12
And this shall be the sign for you: you shall find a child wrapped in cloths and lying in a feeding trough.”
13
And suddenly there was with the messenger a multitude of the host of the heavens, praising Elohim and saying:
14
“Glory to Elohim in the highest, and upon earth shalom among Adam of His favor.”
15
And it happened, when the messengers went away from them into the heavens, the shepherds said to one another: “Let us now go to Beit-Lechem and see this matter that has happened, which Yahuah has made known to us.”
16
And they came with haste and found Miryam, and Yoseph, and the child lying in the feeding trough.
17
And when they saw, they made known the word that had been spoken to them concerning this child.
18
And all who heard marveled at the things spoken to them by the shepherds.
19
But Miryam kept all these words and weighed them in her heart.
20
And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising Elohim for all the things they had heard and seen, just as it had been spoken to them.
21
And when eight days were fulfilled for circumcising him, his name was called Yahushua, the name given by the messenger before he was conceived in the womb.
22
And when the days of their purification according to the Torah of Mosheh were fulfilled, they brought him up to Yerushalayim to present him before Yahuah,
23
just as it is written in the Torah of Yahuah: “Every male opening the womb shall be called holy to Yahuah,”
24
and to give a sacrifice according to what is said in the Torah of Yahuah: “A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.”
25
And see— there was an ish in Yerushalayim whose name was Shim’on. And this ish was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Yisra’el. And Holy Ruach was upon him.
26
And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Ruach that he would not see death before he had seen the Anointed of Yahuah.
27
And he came by the Ruach into the House. And when the parents brought in the child Yahushua to do for him according to the custom of the Torah,
28
he took him into his arms, blessed Elohim, and said:
29
“Now, Master, You release Your servant in shalom, according to Your Word,
30
because my eyes have seen Your deliverance,
31
which You prepared before the face of all peoples—
32
a light for revelation to the nations, and glory for Your people Yisra’el.”
33
And Yoseph and his mother were marveling at the things spoken concerning him.
34
And Shim’on blessed them and said to Miryam his mother: “See— this one is appointed for the falling and rising of many in Yisra’el, and for a sign that shall be opposed,
35
and a sword shall pierce through your own being also, so that the reasonings of many hearts may be revealed.”
36
And there was a prophetess, Channah, daughter of Penu’el, from the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in many days, having lived with an ish seven years from her virginity,
37
and then as a widow until eighty-four years. She did not depart from the House, serving with fastings and prayers night and day.
38
And coming forward at that very hour, she gave thanks to Elohim and spoke concerning the child to all those waiting for the redemption of Yerushalayim.
39
And when they had completed everything according to the Torah of Yahuah, they returned into Galil, to their own city Natzaret.
40
And the child grew and became strong, being filled with wisdom. And the favor of Elohim was upon him.
41
And his parents went every year to Yerushalayim for the feast of Pesach.
42
And when he became twelve years old, they went up according to the custom of the feast.
43
And when the days were completed, as they returned, the boy Yahushua remained behind in Yerushalayim. And his parents did not know it.
44
But supposing him to be among the traveling company, they went a day’s journey and began seeking him among relatives and acquaintances.
45
And when they did not find him, they returned to Yerushalayim, seeking him.
46
And it happened, after three days, they found him in the House, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and questioning them.
47
And all who heard him were astonished at his understanding and his answers.
48
And when they saw him, they were overwhelmed. And his mother said to him: “Child, why have you done this to us? See— your father and I have been seeking you in distress.”
49
And he said to them: “Why were you seeking me? Did you not know that I must be in the things of my Father?”
50
But they did not understand the word which he spoke to them.
51
And he went down with them and came to Natzaret, and remained subject to them. And his mother kept all these words in her heart.
52
And Yahushua increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with Elohim and with Adam.
