1
And he entered Yericho and was passing through.
2
And see— there was an ish named Zakkai. And he was a chief tax collector, and he was rich.
3
And he was seeking to see who Yahushua was, but he was not able because of the crowd, for he was small in stature.
4
And running ahead, he climbed into a sycamore tree so that he might see him, because Yahushua was about to pass that way.
5
And when Yahushua came to the place, he looked up and said to him: “Zakkai, hurry and come down. For today I must remain in your house.”
6
And he hurried and came down and received him with joy.
7
And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying: “He has gone in to lodge with an ish who is a sinner.”
8
And Zakkai stood and said to the Master: “See, Master— half of my possessions I give to the poor. And if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore it fourfold.”
9
And Yahushua said to him: “Today deliverance has come to this house, because he also is a son of Avraham.
10
For the Son of Adam came to seek and to deliver what was lost.”
11
And while they were hearing these things, he continued and spoke a parable, because he was near Yerushalayim and because they thought that the Kingdom of Elohim was about to appear immediately.
12
Therefore he said: “A certain noble ish went into a distant land to receive for himself a kingdom and then return.
13
And calling ten of his servants, he gave them ten minas and said to them: ‘Conduct business until I come.’
14
But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying: ‘We do not desire this one to reign over us.’
15
And it happened, when he returned after receiving the kingdom, he commanded those servants to whom he had given the silver to be called to him, so that he might know what each had gained through business.
16
And the first came, saying: ‘Master, your mina has produced ten minas.’
17
And he said to him: ‘Well done, good servant. Because you were faithful in a very small thing, have authority over ten cities.’
18
And the second came, saying: ‘Master, your mina made five minas.’
19
And he said also to this one: ‘And you— be over five cities.’
20
And another came, saying: ‘Master, see— your mina, which I kept laid away in a cloth.
21
For I feared you, because you are a severe ish. You take up what you did not lay down, and reap what you did not sow.’
22
He said to him: ‘From your own mouth I judge you, wicked servant. You knew that I am a severe ish, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow.
23
Then why did you not place my silver with the bankers? And when I came, I could have collected it with interest.’
24
And he said to those standing near: ‘Take the mina from him and give it to the one having ten minas.’
25
And they said to him: ‘Master, he already has ten minas.’
26
‘I tell you: to everyone who has, more shall be given. But from the one who does not have, even what he has shall be taken away.
27
But those enemies of mine who did not desire that I reign over them— bring them here and slaughter them before me.’”
28
And after saying these things, he went ahead, going up to Yerushalayim.
29
And it happened, as he drew near to Beit-Phageh and Beit-Anyah, at the mountain called Olives, he sent two of the talmidim,
30
saying: “Go into the village before you. And as you enter, you shall find a colt tied, upon which no Adam has ever sat. Untie it and bring it.
31
And if anyone asks you: ‘Why are you untying it?’ say this: ‘The Master has need of it.’”
32
And those who were sent went away and found it just as he had said to them.
33
And as they were untying the colt, its masters said to them: “Why are you untying the colt?”
34
And they said: “The Master has need of it.”
35
And they brought it to Yahushua. And throwing their garments upon the colt, they set Yahushua upon it.
36
And as he went, they spread their garments upon the road.
37
And as he was already drawing near to the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the talmidim began rejoicing and praising Elohim with a great voice for all the powerful works they had seen,
38
saying: “Blessed is the King who comes in the Name of Yahuah. Shalom in the heavens, and glory in the highest.”
39
And some of the Perushim from the crowd said to him: “Teacher, rebuke your talmidim.”
40
And he answered: “I tell you: if these become silent, the stones shall cry out.”
41
And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it,
42
saying: “If you had known, even you, in this day the things that make for shalom— but now they are hidden from your eyes.
43
For days shall come upon you when your enemies shall build an embankment around you, surround you, and press you from every side.
44
And they shall level you and your children within you, and they shall not leave in you stone upon stone, because you did not know the appointed time of your visitation.”
45
And entering the House, he began to drive out those selling,
46
saying to them: “It is written: ‘My House shall be a house of prayer.’ But you have made it a den of robbers.”
47
And he was teaching daily in the House. But the chief kohenim, and the scribes, and the leading men of the people were seeking to destroy him.
48
Yet they did not find what they might do, for all the people were hanging upon his words.
