1
Now at that time Herodes the king laid hands upon some from the assembly to mistreat them.
2
And he killed Yaaqov, the brother of Yochanan, with the sword.
3
And seeing that this pleased some among the Yehudim, he proceeded to seize Kepha also. Now these were the days of Unleavened Bread.
4
And having seized him, he placed him in prison, handing him over to four squads of four soldiers each to guard him, intending after Pesach to bring him out to the people.
5
Therefore Kepha was kept in the prison, but earnest prayer was being made by the assembly to Elohim concerning him.
6
And when Herodes was about to bring him out, that night Kepha was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and guards before the door were keeping the prison.
7
And see— a messenger of Yahuah stood beside him, and light shone in the chamber. And striking Kepha on the side, he awakened him, saying: “Rise quickly.” And his chains fell from his hands.
8
And the messenger said to him: “Gird yourself and bind your sandals.” And he did so. And he said to him: “Wrap your outer garment around yourself and follow me.”
9
And going out, he followed him, and did not know that what was happening through the messenger was real, but thought he was seeing a vision.
10
And passing the first guard and the second, they came to the iron gate leading into the city, which opened to them by itself. And going out, they passed along one street, and immediately the messenger departed from him.
11
And when Kepha came to himself, he said: “Now I know truly that Yahuah sent His messenger and delivered me from the hand of Herodes and from all the expectation of the people of the Yehudim.”
12
And having considered this, he came to the house of Miryam, the mother of Yochanan, the one called Marqos, where many were gathered and praying.
13
And when he knocked at the door of the gateway, a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer.
14
And recognizing the voice of Kepha, because of joy she did not open the gate, but ran inside and announced that Kepha was standing before the gate.
15
And they said to her: “You are beside yourself.” But she kept insisting that it was so. And they said: “It is his messenger.”
16
But Kepha continued knocking. And having opened, they saw him and were astonished.
17
But motioning to them with the hand to be silent, he explained to them how Yahuah had brought him out from the prison. And he said: “Report these things to Yaaqov and to the brothers.” And going out, he went to another place.
18
Now when day came, there was no small disturbance among the soldiers concerning what had become of Kepha.
19
And Herodes, having searched for him and not found him, examined the guards and commanded that they be led away for punishment. And going down from Yehudah to Caesarea, he remained there.
20
Now Herodes was fiercely angry with the people of Tzor and Tzidon. But they came to him with one accord, and having persuaded Blastos, the one over the king’s chamber, they asked for shalom, because their region was supplied with food from the king’s land.
21
And on an appointed day, Herodes, having clothed himself in royal garments, sat upon the judgment seat and addressed them.
22
And the people were crying out: “The voice of an elohim, and not of an Adam.”
23
And immediately a messenger of Yahuah struck him, because he did not give the glory to Elohim. And being eaten by worms, he died.
24
But the Word of Elohim continued to grow and multiply.
25
And Bar-Nabba and Sha’ul returned from Yerushalayim after completing the service, taking with them Yochanan, the one called Marqos.
