1
Yaaqov went out toward the house of Lavan. When the sun had gone down, he came to a place and remained there through the night. He took one of the stones of the place, set it beneath his head, and lay down.
2
And see - a ladder was standing upon the earth, and its head reached toward the heavens.
3
The ladder had twelve steps. Upon every step were two forms like the faces of Adam, one at the right and one at the left - twenty-four forms in all, visible to the breast.
4
Above them was a greater Face, like the form of an ish carved from fire. It was more terrible than all the twenty-four forms together, and the brightness of it reached through the height of the ladder.
5
Messengers of Elohim were ascending and descending upon the ladder.
6
And Yahuah stood above it and called: 'Yaaqov, Yaaqov.'
7
And I answered: 'See - I am here, Yahuah.'
8
And He said to me: 'The land upon which you lie I shall give to you and to your Seed after you.
9
'Your Seed shall multiply like the stars of the heavens and like the sand beside the sea. Through your Seed the families of the earth shall receive blessing, even toward the appointed years of the End.
10
'The blessing with which I have blessed you shall pour forth through your generations. East and west shall be filled with your Seed.'
11
Then fear and trembling fell upon me, and I awakened while the Voice was still in my ears.
12
And I said: 'How fearsome is this place. This is none other than the House of Elohim, and this is the Gate of the Heavens.'
13
I raised the stone that had been beneath my head as a pillar, poured oil upon its top, and called the place the House of El.
