1
When Yehoshua heard the words of Mosheh, both those written in the sefer and those spoken before him, he tore his garments and cast himself at the feet of Mosheh.
2
Mosheh comforted him and wept with him.
3
Then Yehoshua answered him.
4
He said: “Why do you comfort me, my master Mosheh? How can I be comforted after the bitter word that has gone out from your mouth, full of tears and lamentation, because you are departing from this people?
5
What place shall receive you?
6
What sign shall mark your grave?
7
Who shall dare move your body from there as the body of an ordinary ish is moved from place to place?
8
Every Adam receives a grave upon the earth according to his generation, but your grave reaches from sunrise to sunset, and from the south to the farthest north: the whole world is your grave.
9
My master, you are departing; who shall feed this people?
10
Who shall have compassion upon them, and who shall guide them along the way?
11
Who shall pray for them without ceasing, so that I may bring them into the land of their fathers?
12
How shall I nurture this people as a father his only son, or as a mother guards her virgin daughter who is being prepared for the husband she will honor?
13
How shall I supply them with food and drink according to all their needs?
14
There are six hundred thousand ishim among them, multiplied to this measure through your prayers, my master Mosheh.
15
What wisdom or understanding do I possess that I should judge them or answer rightly in the House of Yahuah?
16
And when the kings of the Emorim hear that we are coming, they shall become bold, believing there is no longer among us that set-apart ruach worthy before Yahuah: the faithful one, the master of the word, the chief prophet of Elohim throughout the earth, the complete teacher who stood among us.
17
They shall say: “Their defender is no longer with them, the great messenger Mosheh who day and night bent his knees to the earth, petitioning the Ruler of all the world with compassion and righteousness, remembering before Him the Covenant of the fathers and the Oath.”
18
They shall say: “He is no longer with them. Come, let us go against them and remove them from the face of the earth.”
19
What then shall become of this people, my master Mosheh?” Assumption of Moses
