1
Afterward my father called me and commanded me to gather the wood shavings and prepare the midday meal. Among the pieces I found a small wooden image named Barisat.
2
I placed Barisat beside the fire and said, 'Guard the fire until I return; if it dies, blow upon it.'
3
When I came back, Barisat had fallen backward into the flame, his feet burning, and I laughed. As I watched, he was consumed and became ash.
4
I brought food, wine, and milk to Terach. He ate and blessed Merumath. I said, 'Do not bless Merumath; bless Barisat, for he loved you so much that he cast himself into the fire to prepare your food.'
5
Terach asked where he was. I said, 'He is ash.' My father answered, 'Great is Barisat; today I shall make another, and tomorrow he will prepare my food.'
