1:1
I, Baruk, wept within myself and grieved for the people, because Nebukhadnetzar the king had been permitted to destroy the city.
1:2
I said, “Master, why did You burn Your vineyard and lay it waste? Why did You do this?”
1:3
“Why did You not correct us by another discipline, but hand us to nations who reproach us and ask, ‘Where is their Elohim?’”
1:4
While I wept and spoke these words, I saw a messenger of Yahuah approaching.
1:5
He said, “Understand, greatly beloved man. Do not tear yourself apart concerning the rescue of Yerushalayim, for thus says Yahuah Elohim, the Almighty.”
1:6
“He sent me before you to reveal and show you matters belonging to Elohim. Your prayer was heard before Him and entered His ears.”
1:7
I became silent. The messenger said, “Cease contending now, and I will show you mysteries greater than these.”
1:8
I answered, “As Yahuah Elohim lives, if you show me and I hear your word, I will speak no further accusation. Let judgment be added to me if I break this word.” 6
