1
In the royal house was Eved-Melekh the Kushite, an ish who feared Elohim and hated unjust blood.
2
He heard that Yirmeyahu had been imprisoned because of the Word.
3
Eved-Melekh went before the king and said, “My lord the king, these ishim have acted wickedly against the prophet. He has committed no crime worthy of death.”
4
The king was moved and gave authority for Yirmeyahu to be brought out.
5
Eved-Melekh went with servants, brought cloth and ropes, and treated Yirmeyahu with care.
6
Thus the foreign-born servant in the royal house acted with greater righteousness than many who boasted in descent.
