Tzidqiyahu secretly summoned Yirmeyahu again.

The king said, “Hide nothing from me. What shall happen?”

Yirmeyahu answered, “If I speak, will you not deliver me to death? And if I counsel you, will you listen?”

The king swore that he would not kill him.

Yirmeyahu said, “Submit to the judgment already appointed and preserve life. If you resist, the city shall burn and your house shall fall.”

Tzidqiyahu feared humiliation more than destruction.
