Nachum was remembered as coming from Elkosh, beyond the mountain-region toward Beit-Gavrin, and from Shimon.

After the days of Yonah he was said to give Nineweh a sign: the city would fall through waters and subterranean fire. The memorial interprets later catastrophe in that light. Nachum died in peace and was buried in his own land.
