Book 1 — Chapter 12 — The Talmidim of Yahushua

Eusebius distinguishes the Twelve from a wider circle of seventy talmidim mentioned in early Christian tradition. He names several later figures as belonging to or being associated with that broader company: Barnabas, Sosthenes, Kephas in a disputed identification, Mattithyahu, and others preserved by earlier writers. He recognizes that not every name can be established securely and notes how difficult it is to produce a complete list. The chapter also introduces Matthias, chosen after Yehudah Iscariot's death, and recalls that many who followed Yahushua during his public work later became emissaries, teachers, or local leaders. Eusebius's interest is succession: the movement did not depend only on the Twelve, and the network of witnesses extended more widely than the most familiar names.
