Book VIII Appendix — Chapter 9 - Pamphilos and His Companions
Eusebius's separate record of the Palestinian witnesses preserves events he knew closely from Caesarea and the surrounding province. Chapter 9, 'Pamphilos and His Companions', records the arrests, interrogations, punishments, executions, and remembered acts of endurance belonging to this stage of the Great Persecution. Where Eusebius reports extraordinary signs or idealized speeches, the reconstruction keeps them as source claims. Roman legal coercion, mining sentences, mutilation, exposure to beasts, and execution remain materially explicit without ornamental gore.
