Kepha warned that many teachings would arise bearing sacred names while denying the substance of righteousness. Some would divide the Creator from His work; some would deny the true humanity of the Mashiach; some would make lawlessness a mystery; some would condemn marriage and creation; others would sell spiritual power for gain.

The Ethiopic tradition preserves an extended catalogue of heresies. In this reconstruction the catalogue is not artificially expanded beyond what can be securely controlled; its function is preserved: the assembly must test doctrine by the apostolic faith and its fruits.
