1
And when they entered Ecbatana, Toviyah said: “Brother Azaryah, lead me straight to Re’u’el our brother.” And he led him to the house of Re’u’el. And they found him sitting by the entrance of the courtyard. And they greeted him first. And he answered: “Much shalom to you, brothers. May you come in shalom.” And he brought them into his house.
2
And Re’u’el said to Ednah his ishah: “How much this young man resembles Toviyt my kinsman!”
3
And Re’u’el asked them: “From where are you, brothers?” And they answered: “We are from the sons of Naftali who were taken captive to Nineveh.”
4
And he said to them: “Do you know Toviyt our brother?” And they said: “We know him.” And he said: “Is he well?”
5
And they answered: “He is alive and well.” And Toviyah said: “He is my father.”
6
Then Re’u’el sprang up and kissed him, and wept.
7
And he blessed him and said: “Blessing upon you, my son, son of a good and noble father. What a grievous thing that such a righteous ish, one who gives in righteousness, should have become blind.” And he fell upon the neck of Toviyah his kinsman and wept.
8
And Ednah his ishah wept for him. And Sarah their daughter also wept.
9
And they slaughtered a ram from the flock and prepared much food. And Toviyah said to Rafa’el: “Brother Azaryah, speak concerning those things you spoke of on the road, and let the matter be settled.”
10
So Rafa’el spoke the matter to Re’u’el. And Re’u’el said to Toviyah: “Eat and drink and rejoice tonight. For there is no ish who has the right to take Sarah my daughter except you, brother. Likewise, I do not have authority to give her to another ish, because you are my nearest kinsman.
11
But I will tell you the truth, my son. I gave her to seven men from among our brothers, and all of them died on the night when they went in to her. But now, my son, eat and drink. And Yahuah shall act with you.” But Toviyah said: “I will neither eat nor drink until you settle this matter with me.” And Re’u’el said: “I will do it. She is given to you according to the Judgment of the Torah of Mosheh, and from the heavens it has been decreed that she should be given to you. Take your sister. From now on you are her brother and she is your sister. She is given to you from this day and forever. And may the Master of the heavens prosper you this night, my son, and grant you mercy and shalom.”
12
Then Re’u’el called Sarah his daughter. And she came to him. And he took her by the hand and gave her to Toviyah, saying: “Take her according to the Torah and according to the Judgment written in the sefer of Mosheh, to be your ishah. Take her and lead her in shalom to your father. And may the Elohim of the heavens prosper you with shalom.”
13
And he called her mother and told her to bring a sefer. And he wrote a marriage covenant, that he gave Sarah to Toviyah as ishah according to the Judgment of the Torah of Mosheh. And they sealed it.
14
And after this they began to eat and drink.
15
And Re’u’el called Ednah his ishah and said to her: “My sister, prepare the other chamber and bring Sarah there.”
16
And she went and prepared the bed in the chamber as he had told her. Then she brought Sarah there. And she wept over her. And wiping away her daughter’s tears, she said:
17
“Take courage, my daughter. May the Master of the heavens give you joy in place of your sorrow. Take courage, my daughter.” And she went out.
