1
And when they had finished eating and drinking, they desired to sleep. And they led the young man away and brought him into the chamber.
2
And Toviyah remembered the words of Rafa’el. And he took the heart and the liver of the fish from the bag in which he had kept them, and placed them upon the burning incense.
3
And the smell of the fish restrained the demon, and he fled into the upper regions of Mitzrayim. And Rafa’el went after him, bound him there, and restrained him.
4
And when the parents had gone out and shut the door of the chamber, Toviyah rose from the bed and said to Sarah: “Sister, rise. Let us pray and ask our Master that He may show us mercy and preserve us.”
5
And she rose. And they began to pray and ask that they might be preserved. And Toviyah said: “Blessed are You, Elohim of our fathers, and blessed is Your Name through all generations forever. Let the heavens and all Your creation bless You forever.
6
You made Adam and gave him Chavvah his ishah as a helper and support. From the two of them came the seed of Adam. And You said: ‘It is not good for Adam to be alone. Let Us make for him a helper corresponding to him.’
7
And now, Yahuah, I do not take this sister of mine because of lust, but in truth. Command that mercy be shown to me and to her, and that we may grow old together.”
8
And they said together: “Amen, amen.”
9
And they slept that night. But Re’u’el arose and went out and dug a grave.
10
For he said: “Perhaps he also has died.”
11
And Re’u’el returned to his house.
12
And he said to Ednah his ishah: “Send one of the maidservants and let her see whether he is alive. If he has died, we will bury him and no one will know.”
13
And the maidservant opened the door and went in. And she found them both sleeping.
14
And she came out and told them that he was alive.
15
Then Re’u’el blessed the Elohim of the heavens and said: “Blessed are You, Elohim, with every pure blessing. And let all Your holy ones bless You. And let all Your creation bless You, and let all Your messengers and Your chosen ones bless You forever.
16
Blessed are You because You have made me rejoice and what I feared has not happened to me, but You have dealt with us according to Your abundant mercy.
17
Blessed are You because You have shown mercy upon two only children. Show them mercy, Master, and preserve them, and complete their lives in joy and mercy.”
18
And he commanded his servants to fill in the grave before the morning came.
19
And he commanded his ishah to prepare much bread. And he went to the herd and brought two bulls and four rams and commanded that they be prepared. And they began to make ready the feast.
20
And Re’u’el called Toviyah and said to him: “You shall not depart from here for fourteen days, but shall remain here eating and drinking with me, and you shall make glad the being of my daughter which has been afflicted.
21
And afterward take half of everything that belongs to me and go in shalom to your father. And when I and my ishah die, the other half shall also be yours. Take courage, my son. I am your father, and Ednah is your mother. We are yours and belong to your sister from now and forever. Take courage, my son.”
